Be honest that you're new, and are struggling to get enough experience with the content through simple pug's. An eloquent advertisement will do wonders for you, as it'll help demonstrate that you're intelligent (which bodes well for being able to understand and take constructive criticism to heart). You can fix lack of experience, as well as lack of gear, and many seasoned raiders know this and are happy to get you up to speed if it means they have somebody who will stick around to help down future content and do so with a firm grasp of their class.
