Statement: The next class being added to the game is going to be musketeers. This will either be in 2.2 or 2.3I,ve been hearing from several friends and even random people I run into who believe that Samurai is going to be the next tank. Was just wondering if anyone has any info that would suggest this? Ive looked all over and have come up with nothing.
Also, how would a SAM tank even work? Would he be like a parry master with high defense or evasion? Similar to how nin in XI had high evasion and shadows would SAM have high evasion and high parry rate counter moves similar to third eye? If not, what are some ways you would implement a SAM tank? Or is sam being a tank in any sense just completely off base? lol
After thinking about it, adding SAM as a tank would probably boost tank population. Who doesnt like Katanas?
Most likely their combos will be adjusted when you equip a Templar Soul Stone to be more Tank Role focused.
Enmity effects can be added to their basic combos while their position skills are changed to work when they are infront of the enemy if LNC equips a Templar SoulStone.
I personally think that more people would tank if they put out bigger numbers for damage. Using wow as an example, tanks still hit HARD in dungeons, and had alot of aoe to make it feel like you were still doing damage despite being a tank. Tanks feel super limited in their abilites. On average you are cycling through the same three moves over and over again until u have to hit a cooldown. PLD is especially boring...I want to believe that, but outside of those that want to level one for the "experience" I doubt another tank class would boost the overall tank population in the long term. No doubt the "new car smell" would increase the population in the short term, but really...outside of a few people, only those that truely enjoy the tank role will continue. Tank player base has been small in just about every MMORPG regardless of the number of tank classes involved. The only fluke from my experience was SWTOR.

I'd like to see samurai as a dps tank o;
I didnt say Samurai as a tank role would entirely get rid of the low tank population. I said it would help. Only having two tanks while there are way more dps options does play a factor. If SE would make an interesting and cool looking tank im sure thousands of players would level it up and want to play it. I know I and several of my friends would play a sam tank. Adding another tank class with a different mechanic for tanking is a good thing. Making it so there are 3 tanks instead of 2 WILL help the tank population. Even if it isnt samurai.
I have seen alot of good tank examples in this thread. Templar looks very interesting to play
