that was simultaneously awesome while reminding us that ffxiii's story is pretty much utter nonsense.
Sounds like something that should be on Kickstarter.
I would like to see them go back a bit to how it was.
S-E has in particular strayed to far from the games I liked.
They have become to linear. To little decision making on players part. And they have utterly ruined immersion for me with not being able to rename my characters.
I blame voice overs for that last one. And bad voice overs can ruin a game in itself, like it did for me with FFX.
Between the FF-Generation-Triad, there would be a low market for retro style Final Fantasy:
Generation #1 would be my generation of the NES and FEMICOM Square-Soft Final Fantasy- Delivered HIGH quality story and unorthodox form of battle systems with FF1~VI, Dragonquest and even our beloved Cronotrigger, we take for granted today.
Generation #2 would not be considered a very short list of releases of Final Fantasy using high quality graphics and CG on the Playstation & Xbox bringing our experience out of retro to Anime | Otacu style presentations! We've got that through FFVII, VIII, IX, X and XII.
Generation #3 is very peculiar and doesn't bring anything new to the table in form of story/ characters/ battle systems that is for RPGrs. Superior graphics is at play here again on the PlayStation3 and XBOX 360 delivering new way to interact with the battle system and enjoy a new form of story telling.
My idea: From what I see here, the trend is not making story better but delivery and presentation more main-stream. This kills off the RP-trait and integrity of the genre though some value still remains which supports it enough to get by. I may even think some stories are so complex and convoluted that it kills 'story-telling' to leaving the player dumb-founded.
Arguing could be futile but the fact that story and character development for RPGs has... (how should I state it mildly?) devolved throughout the generations(time-travel...?? zzz), you can see where the gaming industry is heading. Like a beast with multiple heads wearing crowns.

Only if I can get a Snow Punch Out mini game out of it.
Seriously. Snow can DIAF.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
To all of you classic FF1-9 fans who don't like the FFX & FFXIII direction of things. (I'm one of them)
Make sure to support Bravely Default.
It has nearly everything you'd want in a classic FF game, the job system, amazing Akihiko Yoshida art, true fantasy setting, an overworld, story about the crystals, airships etc...
The only thing SE didn't give it was a "Final Fantasy" name and the classic summons/mobs.
Hopefully if it's successful enough, we'll start seeing HD console releases at some point.
Also, if SE would only announce FFXII HD soon...

i wouldnt mind if SE made another 16-32 bit sprite game, but i would suspect that it would be released for smart phones and/or handhelds. I do have 3 big wishes that i would like to see from SE one day tho:
1) a new turn based FF
2) a new ff-tactics for console
3) Star Ocean Online
