You should you'll enjoy it, its actually strikingly similar to XIV to be honest in design terms (art, music, classes, adventure field battles).
The battle style was a departure from the traditional ATB style or Xs truly turn based system, they happened in real time and in the field like on XIV and you could kinda programme the other party members or control them manually - quite fun!

This seems like a pretty appropriate thread to share this video, where people in the game industry talk about their views on graphical improvements. Of particular relevance, the view that enhanced graphics require less imagination to fill in the blanks, and cast further light on deviations from reality.

I would love a 16-bit FF again, but I would really prefer one that kept the same flavor as the past games. i.e., Dimensions, apart from the blue windows, barely looked like a Final Fantasy game at all. It was fun, but didn't scratch my nostalgia itch.

That being said, I don't believe there's anything stopping a game with fantastic graphics from recapturing the spirit of older Final Fantasies. I'm not sure what Square's goal with the series is, but it's currently being used as what appears to be the "safe route" to test out new systems. The most glaring example is the battle system. The series is moving toward non-stop action, where you can now only fully control one character. As battles are an integral part of Final Fantasies, it feels like the series is moving further and further away from when we all fell in love with it, because the core system is changing so drastically. That, I think, is what's causing all the nostalgia rage from fans.

But it doesn't have to be that way! FFX proved that old systems can be successfully updated to modern-day standards. FFX-2 showed that even if everyone hates everything about your game, they'll still love the job system. Enough to warrant bringing it back for XII International, even. I move that if we slow down the battles to where we have full control of the party again, have a true world map, and get away from the "modern magi-technological" era, even a beautiful hi-res game would feel like the old days.

(I'd also like to take a brief moment to address the couple of people who brought up XV: It was originally supposed to take place in the XIII universe, so the atmosphere and setting will likely be reminiscent)

God, FFIX was beautiful. It really was. Such an underrated game.

Go snag Dragon Fantasy Books I & II if you get bored one day. They're short and silly little RPGs, but aside from the bugs that drove me nuts in Book II, they're very solid and fun games. The nostalgia is really well done and shows just how well a 16-bit RPG can do in present time.
