    Future of crafting?

    Did the live letter touch on crafting at all? I've heard different things mentioned about more recipes, higher level gear, ect, but I'm not sure if that is distant future or 2.2. If anyone has any links to other thread about this if like to take a look. Thanks.

    Warcraft style gated crafting.

    Very useful at patch-start.
    Moderately useful at patch-mid.
    Not very useful at patch-late.

    The letter only briefly mentioned new "advanced" crafting recipes. Besides that, with the Glamours (vanity) system coming, I would hope that with it comes more vanity gear and recipes.

    And SE, if you're reading this, I want a dyeable maid costume. Or FF legacy costumes. Those could even be advanced recipes. If nothing else, I'd settle for a skirt like Minfilia's. . .

    Seems like overtime, crafting is not going to make you money like it did in FFXI. It's more like giving the player the ability to be self sufficient to create what they want. Also seems like this game is designed in a way where you don't really need much gil to progress.

    You hit the nail on the head. As the game stands now, a new player gets gear rewards from 1-15 just from doing quests (technically, this works up to 50). When they start doing dungeons, they can get HQ-quality gear. They will likely fill out 50% or more of their slots with stuff close to their level if they wind up doing level-appropriate dungeons enough. At 50, they need to scrape up some gil to buy a pre-relic. They can buy all DL and relic.

    So yeah. Crafters provide pre-relics. That's about it. That's all we are really needed for. Otherwise, we provide gear for the "privileged" who want new gear immediately upon hitting the next level.

    iLvL patch - New crafted gear is introduced. Crafting is suddenly really profitable again.
    iLvL patch has been out for a month; Things stabilize. Crafting useful, but not absurdly profitable.
    iLvL patch has been out several months; Crafting is near worthless.

    Next iLvL patch: Repeat.

    If we keep following the gated content and progression model, it will be like that every time.

    u forgot about wow's extremely limited UNSHARABLE resource nodes which greatly increased the price of crafted items, which if implemented HERE might solve the QQ about crafting dun make u monies! too bad it won't stop the QQ bout comparison statwise to raiding gears.

    Profitable crafting according to several statements made by Yoshi will not lead to a profitable system.

    The Value of gil will continue to be watered down.

    When the Glamor additions come into play or housing items gain any demand the method of making gil from it will quickly be squashed in order to stamp out RMT.
    RMT Limitation will insure crafting will remain a side item in the game and instead will introduce newer non tradable goods and currencies, leaving gil for the low valued glamore, housing and food.
