Former DRG here, quit 9 months ago and can still tell you how to calculate the effects of your STR, DEX, and Acc on WSs and auto-attacks. Hell, I had an idle set just to troll the elitists that wanted to judge me based on my gear in Aht Urghan.

Gear swaps in XIV? No. A whole lot of no. All kinds of no. An entire shining and beautiful rainbow of no.

For one, I spent more time invisible than I did visible. I was that dedicated to milking stats out of my gear. I'm sure White Mages loved that, even though they could get around it if they played smart.

For another, I already have an inventory crisis, running 80-90 on myself and retainers just to keep ingredients readily available for crafting. You want me to carry 2-3 sets of gear for every job on top of that? I mean, the alternative is performing as half the player I could, and that's just no fun.

For a third, that would require the Dev Team to set aside time to make all kinds of new gear. That's time that could be spent balancing leves. Or building a mount system. Or finishing off the airships. Or testing and balancing the new combat system. Or writing new quests. Or balancing my bloody local leves. They can only do so much at once.

For a fourth, they'd have to design the battle system to account for players swapping gear constantly. As if they didn't have enough work in that neighborhood, they'd probably have to scrap half of their work to adjust for the changes in balance.

For a fifth, gear swaps are slow. They'd make mid-battle swaps impossible. By the time you were swapped for a WS, you'd have gained another 1000 TP. Fix that? That's just additional load on the servers. And refer back to point three.

For a sixth, there's a penalty for swapping gear at the moment. Is that not a clear enough message for you? Let me make it clearer. Don't do that!

And finally, for a seventh, I find it much more challenging and fun to have to figure out what balance of stats I want before I even engage the mob. Do I want to wear my Tarred leather trousers for high defense? Or should I swap to my leather subligar for evasion and a bit of MDef? What about my body? Harrier's Jacket for defense, or Toadskin Harness for Evasion and MDef? Think, then fight.

Would gear swaps bring back that warm, fuzzy blinking feeling to make this game FFXI-2? Sure it would. But would it make the game fun for the majority of players? Oh hell no.

My name is a killing word.
(Seriously: "Caerith" was a forbidden name when I signed up on the forums.)

Eorzea should be a world, not a lobby.
