You mean like how all the games that don't have gear swaps lasted just fine? Everquest is still around, you know.

It's funny, for someone whose name is "a mage" you've obviously never played a mage job. Nobody is going to make 6-18x the number of macros just to handle people blinking. That's the stupidest suggestion I have ever heard (and believe me, as a judge at the Northwest Annual Stupid Suggestion Contest from 2008 to 2010 (and soon at the 2011 meet in July), I've heard some pretty stupid suggestions).

As much as I loved SpellCast (which I of course never used because that's a third-party plugin) and having intricate macros setting optimal gear for every spell, every ability, every situation... That is one part of FFXI that I hope FFXIV never emulates.

Switching weapons in combat I accept and am all for. Biggest reason I dislike the Armory system: you can't switch to a knife without becoming an entirely different person.

Changing your pants several times throughout a fight is ridiculous.
I just want to add to this:

If my character is somehow fast enough and dexterous enough to change clothes in under a second all while warding off attacks from hostile foes, casting spells, and running, then why on earth is his attack speed so slow?

Even Bruce Lee couldn't change his pants twice a second so, until S-E makes my level 1 thaumaturge faster than the greatest martial artist of all time, keep your gear swaps where they belong: not here.
