As much as I loved FFXI, and I miss my RDM something rotten sometimes, I don't want to see the return of gear swapping like that in FFXIV.
Gear swapping in FFXI was something you had to get used to, but not really something you necessarily enjoyed doing. On my RDM I seem to remember having maybe 8 rows of macros (which was probably not that many compared to "elitist" players) all with gear swaps for each spell and due to macro books and restriction of the amount of lines within a macro, as we have now, each gear swap macro was like 3 complete accept button presses to fully deck out in a specific set. No game should make players do that- that's just torture! My inventory was always full and as for changing jobs.... well all the fun of swapping items over into storage and out again could take ages :/

I don't mind minor swaps- earrings, rings and weapon maybe... but surely the best game design would be to make your point attributes actually work on each class (and have specific point allotments for each class individually so that if I want to play a melee I don't have to spend the next 6 hours moving points about), and letting players rely on their skill in using the correct spells/abilities and strategy to affect their performance... not how many over-complicated macros and pieces of gear they can carry around.
