TBH there are lots of fish that you can make money on, but it can be very dependant on what the current 'thing/flavour of the day/week can be.
A lot also depends on what level you are and how in depth do you want to play. For example I look at a few items that I already know sell quite regularly and at a half decent price (half the time anyway lol) and then I also check how the prices of the end product/crafted item goes for. I then fish for 2 hrs+ while watching tv and I think I'm good knowledgable enough to come out 60%+ on fish I need to sell.
Now a good way to start is to check out what the best Leves are, for not just Fishing but also Culinary, Alchemy & Goldsmithing which give good xp for trading to the npc's, and you can get a regular income there. Just refer to the www for the leve quests and that will help.
All in all Gil Fishing can be good and very rewarding as it pretty is much a click and go job. Just marco yourself up, know your bait and fishing rod and awya you go![]()
I've found that Sharks seem to be pretty reliable for profit. Alchemists use them to make Shark Oil, and a lot of important crafting recipes use Shark Oil. Hammerheads are pretty easy to fish up with Shrimp Feeders, and I've caught a ton of Silvers trying to complete my fishing log (I'll catch you one day, Titanic Sawfish!!!).
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. This!
And yes, sharks are a good source of income.
Other then that you can go for Fullmoon Sardines, Red Choral and Black and Whitelip Oysters at the Sapsa Spawning grounds.
They sell for less than sharks, but between them you will have a higher catchrate and greater variety of items, and you can get the bait (Northen krill) not too far from that fishing spot either.
Just be sure not to Mooch the sardines for Nautilus', those are worthless.
Felis catus
I will be making a post soon about fish farming, feel free to check it out when it's out
Fish for maps and treasure hunt.
Sell any fish you catch while fishing for said maps along the way.

You may not want to hear this, but the BEST way to make money fishing is to lvl CUL and ALC. Both have profitable recipes that require fish, I can easily make 100-200k a day using these 2 crafts, as well as treasure hunting the maps from 50 spots.
i have an easier way to make gil with fishing... and i only have fisher @ lvl 10...
buy fish from the fish monger from LL and sell on the MB.... 5g fish sells for 500g if you are smart and dont flood the market. sell 1-5 at a time and no more than 4 spots on your retainer.
