    Nerd City: A Gaming Mouse

    Hi guys,

    I just switched to PC from PS3 until PS4 version comes out due to some latency I was getting. Two quick questions, if'n you were so inclined to oblige:

    - What is a good "starter" gaming mouse? I'm looking for some side-button functionality, but I don't want 10-12 of them, and I don't want to spend like $100 on something like this.
    - Would this work?
    MA1 = Mouse Alt 1 (i.e. a button the side of the mouse I could hold down/press)
    1 = the 1 key
    HB2|1 = The first skill on my 2nd hot-bar
    In much the same fashion as the keybind: ctrl+1 = HB2|1, could I map: MA1+1 = HB2|1? Or do alt mouse buttons work solely as clicks and not as holdable buttons?

    That was the most clear way I could think to describe that 2nd question, sorry if it is still unclear, lol!

    I started off with the corsair vengeance m90. 15 buttons, 5700 dpi. Should also invest in a mechanical keyboard.

    Yeah I don't know about no gaming mice. I suggest you instead buy this http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Controller-Adapter-Lifetime-Warranty-2/dp/B000F6BGXY/ref=sr_1_24?ie=UTF8&qid=1386344097&sr=8-24&keywords=ps2+to+usb+adapter

    and this http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-2-Dualshock-Controller-Black/dp/B00004YRQ9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386344278&sr=8-1&keywords=ps2+controller

    Cost less than some gaming mice that you don't really need. But I would look for cheaper prices. Controller will probably be cheaper locally..I remember paying like 15 bucks for brand new, not 26 on amazon, from amazon. I need to buy another couple of them before they're gone forever. They make for damn good PC gamepads. I suggest this BTW since you're coming from PS3, and going to PS4 later. May as well stay gamepad on PC until PS4.

    Logitech G602.

    6 thumb buttons that aren't obtrusive at all. Especially nice when you're not gaming and don't need to use all those thumb buttons. Google it to see pictures of the button placements.

    Wireless with crazy long battery life for a gaming mouse. Been using regularly for the past month and battery indicator is still full.

    I use a 5 dollar Logitech basic mouse. You don't need all this fancy bling on that mouse.

    I use a Razer Death Adder. It has 2 side buttons, it's pretty basic. I didn't want a million buttons on the side either, just a really accurate mouse with at least one side button. It seems to be built well, it's lasted me quite a while so far. I think I paid about $60 for it.

    For MMO's a Razer Naga is as good as it gets. Seriously, you have 36 possible keybinds on the side of the mouse. Takes about two weeks or so to get used to, but it's well worth it.

    Thank you so much for all the suggestions so far! I am going to look at each one (including the controller adapter, or at least a software program that would allow me to slot in my PS3 controller).

    I guess as a follow up, Gamepad > M+KB? Is that the general consensus? Or is it reversed, or is it pure preference and there are very skilled players using each of them successfully?

    see if you can still get a 'Fireglider' somewhere. that mouse cost me about 30€ when I got it originally and it's perfect for gaming, really. it has 2 extra buttons and you can change the weight around and adjust the in/output easily.

    IF you ever decide to get an 'all fancy' gaming mouse SAY NO TO NAGA. get a logitec G700 :P
    (cheaper and just plain better. lol)

    for gamepad vs mouse + keyboard, it's really nothing but preference. I love playing with mouse and keyboard but I find the gamepad playstyle in ARR to be etremely intuitive once you get used to it. I wouldn't say it's easier or harder, really, though. especially with legacy movement enabled on PC mouse + keyboard works great
