Is there an inexpensive way to base yourself out of Kugane/Shirogane?

So, I'm totally willing to trash my LL apartment for a Shirogane one, except for the fact that basing one's self out of the far east puts you at a max price teleport away from anything happening in Eorzea. I'm mostly thinking of regular access to my grand company stuff, or just, I don't know... doing stuff around the world that isn't in the first.

Those of you that do this, that base yourselves out of Shirogane, that have a house or apartment there and like... lobby there to play the game, while still leveling jobs and, you know... needing most of the world: how do you have your favorites and home point and gold star favorite teleport set up? Like I'm at Shirogane now, and my teleport to my LL home is 249 and that's reasonable. Am I to assume that a teleport TO a Shriogane home is also peanuts from pretty much anywhere?

To put things in perspective, I hover around 1.5 mil. I know that's poor for this game, but I don't do anything market-boardy for income as that avenue's not fun for me in any game. That's why I'm talking apartments and not full blown houses (also I can't do a house that could get demolished with time away, it's the principle involved).

I use Aetheryte Tickets for when it's gonna get real expensive.

I know not everyone might feel like doing hunts just for that.
I'm just sharing my own way to get around the high prices incase it'll help.

My main has a house in Shirogane. Her 'return' is set to Ul'dah, because she's an Immortal Flame - and I to GC turn ins most every day. I am in an FC that has a house in Lavender Beds, so that's a 'cheap' port to Gridania. I have an apartment in Mist, so there's a cheap port to Limsa. So my favorites are set up as of now, Ishgard, Rhalgr's Reach, the Crystarium and Eulmore. (I think I have an extra favorite from having the phone app but I can't remember)When Endwalker comes out, I'll switch Eulmore and Crystarium to the hubs there, and I am hoping I can relocate to the Ishgard housing, so I'd move my Ishgard favorite to Kugane.

Are you using your favorite destinations for teleporting? I think with the phone app you get 5 or 6.. so 1 return destination an 5 or 6 for half price dropping it to 499 I think.. an can be lowered further with FC buff.

Just space your favorites out in the different areas

For example my return is Crystarium and my favorites are Idleshire, Ralgar's, Kugane, Eulmore, and Mor Dona I think? Lol I'm forgetting one for sure haha

I have:
My free teleport is to Uldah ( I can get to gold saucer for free and from there to the other two main cities for under 300)
My bind point is Limsa, where my GC is based, I've just never bothered to change this.
My "reduced" points are: Rhalgars Reach, Doman enclave, Foundation, Eulmore (airship to crystarium!) , and Gridania. (there was some reason I have more "favorite" slots than usual that I forget. I think it was having 2 factor authentication?)

My house is in Shirogane , teleporting there from anywhere in the world is 250 at most.

What this results in is I rarely spend more than 600 gil to go anywhere in the entire world in 2 teleports or less. I can usually get within the region for under 200 and then to the point in 400 or less if not completely free if I don't mind a little walking.



As to funding it all, I generally turn in all my dungeon drops (I just roll greed on everything unless someone says something) from roulettes in to my GC for seals and turn those seals into ventures (or aetheryte tickets) which in turn sometimes end up MORE seals because of the gear the retainers bring in. At this point I have somewhere around 10k ventures, 90k seals and am straight up desynthing every gear piece I get and MB'ing the results.


Honestly as far as "funding" yourself you really should at least take a tertiary interest in the MB and list as much as your retainers can put up. If nothing else various venture results and dungeon drops can net you enough gil to never walk anywhere ever again.

2 factor authentication (or One-Time Password) is what gives you the free teleport. The companion app gives you a 4th favored (reduced) destination. Dunno how you got the 5th one though.

Teleporting to a housing ward will always be half the teleport price. At most it will be 499 gil. That and you also have 1 slot to set a no cost teleport. I set mine to Kugane with the 3 major cites as the 3 discounted ones you get. It helps a bit, but isn't mandatory.

Actually, teleporting to a housing ward seems to be quarter-price of whatever the trip to the main city aetheryte would cost – which to Kugane from a non-Othard destination is capped at 999 gil, so Shirogane is 249. (I worked out a while back that the cost is based on distance plus 100 gil travel fee.)

Favoured destinations are half-price, Gold Saucer is always half-price, and FC buffs can give you a 30% reduction on all costs, so 699 instead of 999 as the full capped price.

It's also worth considering that once you are in Shadowbringers, all teleports to any Eorzean or Othardian destinations will be at the capped price, so the difference of housing location is less important. And Endwalker sounds like it's going to be all over the place.

From memory, Limsa is far away from Gyr Abania that you hit the cap travelling that distance too.

From the Ala Mhigan Quarter, all destinations in La Noscea are in the 900 range, with several at the cap, including Limsa. Most of Thanalan (barring the Gold Saucer) is in the 700s, and most of Coerthas is higher (the Dravania destinations hit the cap, but oddly the Sea of Clouds are in the upper 600s, and Azys Lla is 752....I guess the floating Allagan death continent is closer than Ishgard?).

Unrelatedly, I apparently still have Horizon set as a favored destination from returning to the Waking Sands.

Do your weekly hunt elite hunt bill from the hunt board at your Grand Company, at Foundation and at Kugane and buy Aetheryte Tickets each week.

Every teleport could be 1,000 gil lost and over time that gets high, because 10 teleports is 10,000 gil. Before you know it, you've done 100 teleports in a week and you've spent 100,000 gil. You've prevented that if you got the Aetheryte Tickets.
