    Here here! It is long due.
    They can keep the animations because they are an important part of the game, but there is no actual need to actually lock your skills during animation.
    Let the animation be canceled by the next input.
    Of if you don't want triple weaves to happen, just reduce the animation locks enough to let double weaves be doable by people with 150+ ping.
    World of Warcraft does it and that never had a complaint from the community, nor has it broken the game.
    And yes, I believe FFXIV is a much better game (in my oppinion, of course), but the animation locks are a major downside for this game and make people living one country (or more) away from the server feel like they can't play the same game that "natives" do.

    The animation is interrupted by the next input. It's why double weaving within a GCD exists. The skills in FFXIV doesn't wait until the animation is fully done before allowing to use another ability or skill. You only have the starting animation. It's why RDMs can use Contre sixte after a veryholy and immediately have Fleche's swords stab out while the swords from Contre Sixte is still attacking the enemy.
    The starting animation is generally a 0.7 second lock unless it's a dash or displace (in the sense of Dragoon and RDM's Displacement, which forcibly moves your character through the animation).

    As for the major downside of living in one country and playing on a different server... ping is a problem for any network connection since there would be delays when receiving packets from a further source. That's not a problem inherently related to FFXIV, but a regional problem on your end. SE is already seeing if they can release more datacenters for more regions, and the next on the list is Oceania since they didn't have a datacenter in their region but a large population of players. I'd say to wait for Data center travel to hop onto a closer datacenter for your region to lower your ping. They can't really lower the animation lock any further, or else it'd be possible to triple weave in a GCD and that opens up a new can of worms for optimal rotations, and suddenly APM becomes a problem.

    Animation lock on the scholar that was introduced in shadow bringers is an absolutely horrible design choice that has made healing with the fairy incredibly clunky, unfun, and less effective.

    This is however less of an issue with animation lock and more of an issue with the entire SCH design and with how the fairy functions. The animation lock on the fairy essentially means that the abilities are just oGCDs for the SCH, problem there is that you do not have enough weave slots for all those oGCDs without using Ruin 2 and multiple uses of Ruin 2 are a massive dps loss without also weaving Energy Drain, of which you, at best, only get 3 per minute and it uses the same resource that your healing does. This creates the problem that SCH has to choose between losing out on dps or losing out on healing.


    The other problem is that while you're supposed to use fairy abilities like oGCDs they do not function like oGCDs because they are still cast by the fairy and not your character, leading to a noticeable delay between pressing the button and the ability being executed, which makes the fairy abilities feel sluggish, unresponsive and just not that fun to use.


    None of those issues are necessarily a problem with animation lock and more of a problem with how both SCH and the fairy are designed, a lot of that could already be fixed by simply giving SCH better weaving tools and turning the fairy into basically just a cosmetic option while making it's abilities true oGCDs for the SCH.

    i do like reactive mechanics but by removing animation lock, and adding more reactive mechanics how to you solve the problem of the boss breaking the rotations of half of the classes in the game?
    Fights are already designed trying to avoid that and still we have some classes that have an advantage on uptime making so that those need to be classes with lower damage to not break the game.

    Animation isnt the problem, but reducing the netcode delay on oGCDs would solve some problems even if clipping some animations. High latency player already suffer with that since ARR and avoid to play with proc based classes or low GCD such as BRD/MCH/MNK its a pain to ract with 190-240 ms

    Fact is that by making more reactive fights will punish Melees and classes like BLM that if in need to move reduces they're input damage to zero in some cases. Being punished for doing the mechanic correctly does'nt sound a lot of fun.

    That's a problem i faced on Mythic or Heroic fights on WoW for exemple where melees are so punished for reactive mechanics that sometimes in a 20men raid group willl be filled with Mages/Hunters/Druids and maybe 2 or 3 melees to avoid the DPS problems.

    TL;DR : If the solution would be so easy it would have been already been implemented since thats not the 1st time ppl ask for less delay on animations.

    It's really a terrible networking problem. I don't have any problem learning around my higher ping, but it causes so much clipping and questionable mechanic interactions.
