aWhile I agree with your frustration I have to point out that you are part of the problem. You see an item up for 3200 and then put on up for 2800? That's a 12.5% price decrease. Was it necessary to undercut by 400? So lets say you do that. Then the next guy does that. Now its down to 2400. Then one more does it and now it's 2000.Every time I try to sell items in the market, I get undercut. I see an item is selling for 3200 gil. Great, so I make some of them, put them up for sale for 2800 (thinking i'll get them sold) and then come back the next day to see nothing sold. Same item is now selling for 2000, and then 1800, and then 1000 and then 500 gil. I can never seem to sell more than one or two items before I am undercut again.
People need to stop undercutting for ridiculous discounts. You can put it up cheaper without completely devaluating the item in the process.
Man OP I am lazy . . . I mean as lazy as they come to make money I have 2 50's and I buy all my mats and crystals off the MB stack up my two retainers of no more then 4-5 each HQ item and the occasional NQ screw up and within the week . . . . . . it all sells which is roughly 100k there then I take the weeks philo's and turn them into items and sell those . . . 40-60k there . . . . then another 10-20k just from dungeons . . . - repairs where am I at guys ^^. As others say the money's there just use you head and look for the deals.
Gathering your own materials does not make more money, because materials can be sold instead of crafted.
If materials sell for 1000 and the item sells for 1100, then crafting only makes the difference: 100. Instead of gathering and crafting, you could gather twice as many materials for 2000.
In that example, gathering returns 1000 for the same amount of time, crafting returns 100, and gathering and crafting only returns 550, since it takes twice as long to gather and craft as it does to gather or sell.
Obviously it's more complicated based on how long it takes to craft versus gather, how much you like doing those activities, and how frequently materials sell compared to items. However, the only reason gathering and crafting seems to make more than buying materials from the market to craft is because you spend more total time working. Your hourly rate doesn't double if you work twice as long.![]()

ITT OP pretends Philosophy tomes don't drop like rain.
so you start off your bids by undercutting and are then surprised when someone comes along and undercuts you...

Here now, I know a trick.
Say you want to buy a FC House or even, in the future, a Personal House.
Say you want other cool stuff, but you can't spend nothing or you won't have enough money for the latter.
And let's assume the obvious: FFXIV will go F2P in less than a year.
Then, here's the trick.
Prices of houses will fall back time after time. You will have an indirect gain by the money you will save with the lowest price on the discounted house.
Meanwhile you will gain ~12 bucks each month for a lot of months.
So you will gain ~100 bucks of Real Money WHILE making sure that, for the time you will log back in, everything will cost less and your actual Game Money are worth more. Double gain.
And if you love SE, you can spend all that Real Money in some SE console games. Everybody wins!
Well, first off why isn't your miner 50 yet? GSM is the most self-sufficient crafting class with a miner. Farming mats by yourself post patch 2.2 is so easy now, there is no excuse not to. Don't bother making items over level 45. There's a glut of stuff up there, so if you're not farming the mats yourself the margin isn't worth it. Don't flood the market with mutltiple items. Make 1-2 HQ items then make something else. NPC the NQ items. Focus on weapons more than jewelry, they pay more. The marlets are flooded right now because everyone is trying to get quick cash for housing so the market is depressed. Keep looking, there is still money to be made.
If you 100 people, each day gathered 1 map and group up for each map and donated just those proceeds to the fund.
For the FC doing this you could in theory make, on the low end, 1.2 million a day. On the high end, 4 million a day, just from the cold hard cash of the maps.
It doesn't even to have to be each person doing the map... all 100 people could mail each map they get to one person. That one person put a team of 7 other together and just do maps.. all day.
My Coil group does this.. We gather 4 peists each. Then we get together and knock them out. So 32 maps at once. That is almost 400k of cash, in addition to a ton of mats, and 32 chances at bluebird. Takes a couple hours... but it is cash like no other.
