    Lalafell Predators

    Hello!

I apologise for a potentially very simple question, but I'm not sure exactly how to word it to search for the answer.

In the lore I've read, Lalafell Plainsfolk are originally from the "South Sea" islands and lived in thatched huts with elaborate networks of tunnels running below them. They also often have light coloured hair to help them better blend in with the terrain in order to stay hidden from rocs (giant birds of prey)

So my question is, how often do you think lalafell are eaten? c_c

Like, do you think it's infrequent enough where there would be this panic afterwards, or do you think it's a common enough occurrence where people would generally be like, oh, it's so sad... we all need to remember to be careful.

Well, size doesn't always mean that you're food. I believe it is the lalafells ability to use tools and think critically and abstractly that is what leads them to being a populous race. Kinda like us hyur--humes--humans! *cough*

Right, but like, humans are pretty smart, and we can get eaten sometimes?

Like, there's this web page that says:

They began to migrate to Eorzea when maritime trade routes opened up. One theory as to why they have green hair, is because it let them blend in with grass to avoid being eaten by the avian predators called giant rocs that hunted in their homeland.
I can't imagine they wrote that themselves, though I'm not sure exactly where they got it from? That's what lead to my question.

At first, I thought this was a thread about lalafells as sexual predators (not too farfetched, based on their conversations).

Then after reading the OP, I wondered how many Rocs actually fly into underground tunnel networks. Then I was thinking about where I've seen Rocs; the FATE "Roc of Ages" is in Coerthas, closest to Ishgard, I'd guess. Then I wondered how many lalafells originated in Coerthas.

Then I remembered a quote from an Austin Powers movie reminding me not to think too much about the details.......

Half the Fates in Ul'Dah are about having to deal with some giant monster or other that keeps eating Lalafels, so I think the answer to your question is "A lot".

Not just Thanalan, there's Fates in La Noscea and the Shroud that are also about preventing stuff from eating Lalafell...

I think it's our ability to make lots of sexy time that led to us being a populous race. ALL RIGHT!

Every time you lose a FATE, Lalafells get busy replacing the ones the monsters eat.

In all honesty, I don't think they are particularly more predated than the other spoken races, sorta. They are the tinyest spoken, thus if any of them is going to end up in the sights of a large predator, it's them first.

That said, gotta remember Eorzea is a dangerous world, specially if you're not a person trained in a combat art. Thus, casualties are definitely far higher than the ones we are used to in real life.

I think there is a mistranslation that has gone horribly wrong, we eat everything in our path. We are the top of the food chain.
