I actually just spit out my drink reading this from laughter.

Please explain how Gridania/LL/Ul'dah care one way or the other in real terms about you finishing your leve. Just because the game says it cares doesn't mean it actually does. There is no competition between cities right now, so this is just a B.S. answer as to why one should not fail leves.

(truth of forests). The bitter side of the coin says that failing leves intentionally (even though it's the most efficient way of doing things) is somehow akin to cheating the system.

Also, if starlord is going to RP an altruist hero finishing leves for great justice. I'm going to RP a self interested dick just trying to cap his character out in the most efficient way possible, sucks to Gridania's needs, what have they done for me lately.

P.S. Don't feel the need to rebut that. I'm just saying the sentiment is there. I don't believe a word of it. If throwing a brick against a wall was the fastest way to R50 I'd be all over it.

The main reason people fail leaves is the disparity in SP gains between them.

Even if that is addressed, I think there should be bonus SP for completing a leve, just to give the leve some real significance.

One big issue with FFXIV, is that it makes little difference whether you succeed or fail in anything you attempt, be it leves, missions, NMs, or anything else.

This leads to ambivalence which in turn leads to players quitting. In fact, the only ones that end up sticking around are those that make a some sort of a game out of ultra-efficient leveling.

FFXI (in it's early years) was a brutal game. Rewards were well earned and players were very invested in overcoming steep odds. Monster Hunter and Demons' Souls are other examples of successful games that really challenged players. These games enjoyed a very committed and loyal fan base because of the high level of difficulty and the sense of accomplishment they provided in overcoming obstacles. FFXIV would do well to take a page from them.

Actually, from R33 onward, it pretty much is the fastest way.

If I'm in a bar fight, is it cheating to use anything not nailed down as a weapon? or is it a winning strategy?
