Instead of numbers indicating both the Y and X axis on the map, why not change one row/column to letters? Once all 26 letters have been used, then begin again with double letters, like Microsoft Excel.

Agreed.

In game maps are much easier to read as (A, 24) rather than (24, 24).

Eliminates any hint of confusion.
