Wild Chocobos - Where and do they even exist?

A sudden thought popped up to me while I was picturing a random story of my character finding a young wild chocobo and taking him in as his own.

Obviously I began to wonder the next thing. We all see tamed chocobo's everywhere. Either as carriages, transport, personal or military use. Yet I don't remember reading or hearing on where those chocobos come from in the first place.
Is it possible from a lore perspective(obviously not ingame) that wild chocobos can be found in random zones? Like finding a wild chocobo in the shrouds or wandering the plains of la noscea.

Or can these wild chocobo's only be found in some location that has yet to be unveiled for the player in some future expansion. Or simply a random place that we'll never visit. I probably missed mentions of this ingame. Hence me calling the aid of you dedicated loremongers.

They USED to roam around in Coerthas, according to the lore. But when Coerthas became all frozen and snowy after the calamity, most of them moved into the Black Shroud.

On a related note, Ishgard is the only place that breeds (or bred) transport chocobos. At the beginning of 1.0, there was a chocobo plague and the demand for healthy chocobos could not be met even within Ishgard, thus their export stopped, resulting in a shortage that lasted well into the game's release. The plague eventually subsided and adventurers were once again allowed to rent chocobos and get one from their grand company.

This is no longer the case. They are also bred in Bentbranch meadows now, and possibly some other places as well.

Yep, and supposedly we're going to be able to breed them, ourselves, too. According to the Heavensturn quests though, it seems Ishgard still has the best chocobos. I seem to remember a chocobo ranch from concept images, it had a big moogle balloon. This might just be Camp Bentbranch, but the picture got me really excited about chocobo breeding... I hope it'll be fun when it's released.

By the way, if you started in Gridania you will notice one of your quests was helping a man from the stables, who is actually Ishgardian sent there exactly to aid Grid in how to properly raise birds, in rescuing a stole egg from a prized bird.

We may also see wild ones in the Lowlands, as we don't know how that region were affected by the Calamity just yet.

It makes me theorize that Chocobo Breeding will be added along with the expansion of Coerthas as a playable region (since the art of it is the most developed there). I could see it being tied to a quest chain there or something similar.
