The main reason as to why the main attraction is Primals. ( Spoilers)

Story.

It revolves around the story more than anything else. If I recall the Ascians are looking to summon all the primals ( in their ultimate state) in order to drain the Mothercrystal (Hydaelyn). In which your Character has a vision seeing the Mothercrystal ( Hydaelyn) drain from it's light and we see nothing but a darkness crystal.

The Ascians main motive in all this is so they can summon Zodiark their "God". So they taught the beast tribes on how to summon primals, the more the beast tribes summon their Primal the more Hydaelyn's light fades until it turns into darkness. Which is probably their cue to summon Zodiark ( somehow) while Hydaelyn is in darkness.

How is the Crystal going to be in demise? Primals draining the energy from the Crystal eventually turning it to darkness.

I understand people are complaining about All they do is Primals. Well this is the main reason why they can't simply drop it.

Still a lot of question left unanswered and currently SE has the Major Update Story about concluding the 1.0 City-State story that was left unfinished by the original 1.0 team.

1.0 Ul'dah story was concluded in 2.1 Main Story.

I won't be surprised if the reason why Garlean Empire became a Magitek State was because of the Ascians and the Ascians are the real power behind the Garlean Emperor.

Most likely the destruction of the Aether seal in Silvertear Lake that prevented Primals from being summoned in Eorzea was planned by the Ascians controlling the Garlean Empire from behind the scenes.

k....aren't the updates we've been getting MINOR updates? I feel like we are getting good enough content. Crystal Tower, new gears, and the primals aren't exactly reruns...sure its the same boss character, same stage, but the tactics to defeat them are entirely different. While everyone bitches and complains about these small updates that from my perspective has some good stuff in it, SE is also busy at work with other updates and goodies for other small patches and....believe it or not, but probably hard at work with the next major update. I'm content with what we've gotten so far.
