    Help a colorblind person?

    Hi all,

I have a request to pose to the forum... one which is likely more commonly-needed than you'd think, but rarely asked.I am colorblind IRL... not severely, but to the point where I could never serve in the military (I tried), and have been rejected from a number of jobs.

My goal was simply make my character a Caucasian girl with kitty ears and a tail. And I selected the one skin tone that I thought fit the bill -- it's pale, but with a hint of more brown in it. However, when I got out into the world -- particularly awesome Ul'dar -- I started to realize she was a bit too pasty to believably be wandering around in the outdoors for a living.

I went back to the character creation menu to see if I could find a skin tone I liked better, but have been frustrated. Here's a screenshot of my current skin tone (three from the top, upper left):

I don't know where to go from here. If I head right, the bluish tones start to bleed in. And if I go down, she begins to look like she has a nasty sunburn. It's almost as if Keepers of the Moon don't tan -- they burn! This is in sad contrast (from my perspective) to the Keepers of the Sun, whose pallet is very orderly and understandable. I would have gone with that sub-race, but didn't care for the vertically aligned pupils.

All I want is something a few shades darker than the skin color I've got (and that derives its color from brown rather than pink or blue), but I'm at a loss. Could you possibly help me with some suggestions? I don't want her to be a California blonde with a beach tan... just a liiiiittle darker than she is. Pale, but not a china doll. However, if this isn't possible with the current pallet, it would at least ease my mind to know.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I turned it into a link instead. It's imgur, so it's safe.

Well, Moon keepers have a cooler palette, so if you are desperate for that sun kissed look I suggest changing to a Sun Seeker.
Otherwise perhaps you should try the lightest colours on the very bottom of the palette rather then the top ^_^

I think you're a bit darker and perhaps pinker than I'd like to be, but I'm also colorblind, which is sort of at the root of this matter XD. I think I may be about to use up my allotment of daily replies (and this post probably constitutes the limit). Currently, I would describe Tera's skin tone as 'milk with a few drops of coffee in it.' I like that blend, but it needs more coffee, so to speak. If I don't reply until tomorrow it's because the forum is preventing me from doing so.

^ That's the reason i make a sun keeper in the first place. Of course used the potion to change to Hyur because majority of ffxiv plays the kittys haha.

Gotcha, well heading to the right will give you a more softer pink while heading down I believe will give you the extra "coffee". But without playing with it my self i dont want to ruin anything. But atleast if you play for a month they will give you a fantasia potion to change your race and face and such.

When it comes to Miqo'te, Seekers of the Sun have the warm skin-tones and Keepers of the Moon have the cool ones. With brown, I think you mean more green/yellow mixed in for a warm tone? In Moon, there isn't much since the tones that have the most (bottom row that begins pale pink and ends in dark, cool brown) are still pretty heavy on the reds and blues (there is an even paler option than the one you have with more yellow mixed in, but it's pretty much chalk white). Nearly any of the Sun skin-tones seems to fit your criteria (top-middle rows have a bit more yellow than bottom rows, which are a bit more pink. Except the top-left-most squares, nearly all are a shade darker than the tone you currently have, none are heavy on the blue). Picking the second or third square on the Sun Miqo'te would probably give you what you want (be warned that some are less brown-heavy and more yellow and green-heavy).

Edit since I also hit my daily limit:

I think I'm not willing to change to a Seeker of the Sun. It's nothing against SotS's -- the vertically aligned pupils just look alien to me. I like looking into my character's eyes and seeing a human soul. I suppose that's silly, but it's there.

Would you say, then, that the best bet for 'human looking' skin is the bottom left hand corner? I guess it's not fair to let my own ideals of cat-girl-ism (lol... I make up words now!) intrude into Square's realm, but in my book, catgirls are humans with ears and a tail. That was the overriding force in my approach to designing this character, and remains so. So I'm trying to find a very human skin tone, which -- I admit -- may simply not be possible with the Keepers of the Moon. But I won't sacrifice eyes for skin if it comes down to it.
With Moon tones, the bottom-most row works pretty well, just be aware that the more to the right you go, without going over the half-point, you add a blue-grey tint in addition to darkening the skin-tone. It is more "pink" than the top-most row, but darker and less pasty. First or second square should work for what you want if you're willing compromise on the yellow/brown toning (before you use Fantasia, make a couple of characters with these tones and just play the beginning tutorial and see if it's what you want is my advice).
