You know, when I left FFXI for a long time and went back there was a single thing that I noticed.
A single thing that once I was without and returned to, actually was enough to greatly increase my dislike.
It was the gear swapping. Never again do I want to carry 80 full slots of gear for a single job just to be at my full maximum potential.
So I must say No, I'm sorry I would never want to see gear swaps in FF14.

No. This was a nightmare back in FFXI and we dont need more macros nor 100 gears for each job.
A big resounding No from me too!
One thing would like tho, is if for example you are in a dungeon and lose the tank that if you have PLD or WAR levelled you should be able to switch to that role to take over the loss of the tank. Or at least after waiting xx minutes for a new tank to arrive. As we all know that losing a DPS for whatever reason mid dungeon gets replaced pretty fast.

Gear swapping, No
Multiple useful sets, Yes.
You couldn't swap between them in combat, but it would be good if you could use different sets for different content.
Maxing accuracy if mobs are fast and agile, maxing vitality if they're hitting hard, etc... As a PLD, I have a "DPS set" when I'm not main tank or when I know a smaller HP pool is sufficient.

Just because that seems to be what is currently happening, the game is still young and it has been said many times by development/Yoshida etc, that they want to set up a stable base foundation for the game before they start to look into things like new stats, gear with special bonuses etc. Currently, that is not needed because the game is still young and growing.
Regarding the gear swapping, though, FFXI could do it because the game was much slower. It was still a pain in the backside for most, though, because the macro system is incredibly basic and didn't offer much help when it came to certain gear types (like Elemental Obis or those which worked with certain HP %s). I did have a lot of gearsets for my own jobs in XI (I played RDM and BLU, both with many gear sets each) and did go through the process of setting up macro sets that worked well for what I was doing. But I am also glad to get away from it, and I'd hate to have to use it now.
You probably wasn't around, though, when it was accidently hinted by a community rep that gear swapping would be in XIV 2.0 (it was incorrect information); there was a big back lash against it. For various reasons, from community based issues (elitists would be all over it, more than they are for not having i90 gear as soon as you hit lv50 - heck, even going into Sastasha with new players scares them), to immersion reasons and simple usability reasons. I don't see it happening, and I don't want it happening. Not in the same way that XI does - mid battle swapping can be a thing of the past for me.
What I would like, is more reason to have multiple sets for all the roles. WAR is currently the one I have 2 sets for, a VIT stacked set and a DPS set. More classes/jobs would benefit from being able to make use of different sets for different situations. Currently, though, people tend to built 1 set with a certain focus and use that for every purpose. Which makes sense; there's little reason not to.

Gear swaps? Yes, please.

No No No No never, I hated it in FFXI, all that wasted inventory space, the vast amounts of time to change job getting every piece of gear for your new job, and let's throw the good ol' immersion card into the mix "Oh Titan, just give me a second whilst I strip off to change gear"
My DRG healing breath macro was a good one, changing my helmet twice, with tight wait times, one second of lag could mean one doesn't get equipped.
Keep gear swapping where it belongs. In XI and out of XIV.
The only thing I can really agree on which I have been wondering why this isn't in effect, is the adding much difficult content for hardcore players for that +1 stat with a % chance to drop. Its not NEEDED but its something to sink your time into if you really want it and wouldn't effect casual players in the least bit. Also for said content make it so its not a scripted thing (landslide->punch in the face->mountian buster) and make it completely random to keep them on their toes and make it a little more interesting. With this, hardcores players have something to do and casuals wont give 2 shits.
