    Patch 2.2: Let's Copy the Worst Practice of MMOs From the Last 10 Years...

    ... invalidating all your old content by continuously raising item levels (eventually raising the level cap with every expansion) and thereby removing any sense of previous accomplishment for what we have achieved. No one will be able to come in and see how tough Twintania was to beat in 2.0 or even 2.1... now they will know Twintania as a boss on par with 2.1 CT's final boss. So those high end allagan weapons that marked you as having beaten Twintania? That sense of accomplishment is part of why a lot of people play an MMO, and the devs are trampling that into the dirt when they do stuff like this. Didn't they learn from the mistake they made with raising the level cap in FFXI? What drew me to FFXIV: ARR were the small, but important differences it had from western MMOs, and the potential for it to take a different approach to the problems that had come before. Instead, they are going to repeat the worst mistake Blizzard made by continually raising item levels and the level cap. If this is the only time they are doing this, then fine, but I see no sign of them stopping.

    Thankfully I didn't hang on past 90 days to find out this game wasn't for me. Gratz to all of you that enjoy the current state of the game. The 3+ weeks(still ongoing) to get customer support to work with me on a improper item purchase helped me make my decision. If they're that hard to work with on something Rift or other games could handle in a day or 2 I've decided not to resub/award them for a craptastic job. If they do something in the future more than have an arena for PvP I might gain an interest again, but SE has already shown me how they treat sub'ing customers.

    Someday I will find a PvP oriented game that will be as much fun as Dark Age of Camelot was in its heyday.. <still looking>

    I can't speak for everyone. But I want a sense of accomplishment. When my accomplishments are trivialized after I've accomplished them, it lessens my own sense of accomplishment.

    You don't necessarily have to agree with that but that is how it works on a psychological level, and why linear progression MMOs never hold my interest for long.

    There is such a thing as sideways progression. Take a look at FFXI. It progressed for many years with capped level and sideways content. I'm not saying it can last forever, but seven months is way too early to start shitting all over the hard work players put into gearing up. Fact is, the game design and mechanics are too simple so they have no choice but to increase X-stat to create any kind of progression. Doing that means iLVL increases and shitting all over previous content. There is no grand story or real raid content to keep progression sideways. SE is out for a quick buck with this game.

    Nothing they have implemented or are going to implement has any real longevity. It is a real turnoff to some of the community. Why bother trying when all of the rewards you work hard for are discarded in a few months?

    You mean how FFXI raised the level cap to 55 on September 2002...FOUR MONTHS after release ? And to 60 TWO months later ? With all the AF1 which were far better than anything at this point ?

    FFXI didn't start with a lvl cap of 75 (It took it one year and a half to raise it there). And the problem with the level cap was the mainjob/subjob synergy. That can't happen in FF XIV because the cross-class abilities doesn't follow such a rule.
