Last I heard, he was basically a freelancer. He could very well compose more tracks if SE requested and if he wanted.

Yeah I'm hoping for this too, possibly when an expansion hits. I think he did that with the first couple of FFXI expansions, so maybe we'll get lucky

Uematsu had no connection to any of FFXI's expansions, other than some of the tracks for Chocobo raising and racing. He only worked on the original game (and then only a few tracks, namely Memoria di la Stona, Ronfaure, Distant Worlds, the Crystal Prelude and Dash de Chocobo. Most of FFXI's soundtrack was composed by Naoshi Mizuta with some tracks by Kumi Tanoika.

As for ARR, a while ago I remember Yoshi mentioned Uematsu will be returning to compose on ARR in the future, but it's unclear when that will be. In any event, ARR features a lot of his tracks from 1.0 returning, which are all available on Before Meteor, which is enough for now for me.

Teeeeechnically we do have some Uematsu music in ARR... Twilight Over Thanalan plays during some cutscenes (which originally played IN Thanalan) and The Dark's Embrace/The Dark's Kiss in Haukke/Copperbell HM. Basically whatever they decided to reuse from 1.0.
