I don't feel betrayed yoshi stated that progression and everything else was going to copy wow, he stated that years ago.
The buff you get for dying seems to be one of the worst decisions I've ever heard of in mmo history though.
I know it was in the story but it had minimal impact it was more for speeding up lvling which was fine

they have told us they will try to bring a lot of content every 3 month, they are doing it!

I don't know why people thought Square would ever try to create a successor to Final Fantasy XI without shutting down Final Fantasy XI.

It would be incredibly financially stupid for Square to make FFXIV more like FFXI. Their two products would start competing with each other! Currently, they are two very, very different games and as such are not fighting each other for customers.

It's not criticism. It's whining and more to the point, trolling.

Ya'll knew this was going to happen. Yoshida said it before the game even launched. You were told and you still decided to play and pay. You, and all the people like you, really need to just go find some niche late-90s-style MMORPG on Kickstarter and go support that. Let the rest of us, those of us who don't care about inflating our e-peens, play this game. There are far more of us, so it's unlikely that you'll really be missed.

As far as feeling betrayed goes... yes, but only in regards to what Yoshi-P promised us before ARR was even in the works and then later did or said the exactly opposite of what he would or would not do with the game.

When it comes to the game itself I simply feel extremely disappointed because it does not live up to my expectations, nor were most of the promises we were given kept in the final adaptation of the game.

I think that "feeling" of betrayal is generally only felt by those who originally played version 1.0 of the game, because we were promised that our loyalty to the game would not be in vain. New players to the game either like or dislike it completely on it's own merits because they do not draw on what was said by the developer before the game's release.

The long;short of it is, if you promise something to your player base and then break that promise, that player base has the right to "wine" or criticize your decisions.

My subscription runs out at the end of the month for a six month subscription plan and I have to make a decision just like everyone else. Seeing as I can count on two hands the number of times I've logged on since signing up for that subscription... what I'm really asking myself is, do I want that Shantotto minion for a week or do I want to spare myself further disappointment? (I don't collect minions....)

You cannot be serious. The game is extremely accurate to what the roadmap said, and what was said in live letters and letters from the producer.

It has always been extremely clear, they gave us the roadmap, and asked for support to fulfill that roadmap. It wasn't "support us and we'll make FFXI again." Ever. If you supported them thinking they were just going to remake FFXI despite all evidence to the contrary, that is your own idiocy and has nothing to do with betrayal.

I think you're misunderstanding what the OP was trying to say about the game and what this thread is about. Others have made comments similar to "Oh, so you want FFXI-2, well go play that then and stop trying to change our game!" while the OP is simply using FFXI as an "example" and has even stated later on in the thread that FFXI-2 is not what he wants.


FFXIV 1.0 was not made to be FFXI-2, I understand that. It was, however, advertised and promoted to people who were currently playing FFXI or had played FFXI at any point in time (we all got the 2-5 promotional e-mails on the accounts we subscribed with...) because they were trying to entice them over to FFXIV, this was even stated by the developers.

The support 1.0 subscribers gave to the game was based on good confidence that they would put out something that addressed all the problems the previous version of the game had. Instead, we got something that, while improved in the graphic engine and UI departments, still suffers from many of the same problems that 1.0 was dealing with that no other MMO on the market seems to have.

As for that road map they gave us, it is extremely inaccurate (as far as the time goes) being off by a couple months, and does not detail everything that they did to or had stated they would not do to the game. While almost all of it has been fulfilled (if a bit late) we still don't have their current plans for the game or what direction it will go in moving forward.

I agree that anyone supporting the game up to this point believing that it would be FFXI-2 is misleading themselves and should move on. I'm realistic though and realize that I have not read any posts on these forums where anyone has EVER asked for FFXI-2 and when they refer to FFXI it is because they want SE to take a page from something that they themselves have already done in the past and build upon it's good points.
