Undercutting by stupid amounts - why do it!

Everyones trying their damndest to make a little gil, why do people then say see 20 stacks of say copper ore for 50gil each (an example) and drop the price to 5 gil...surely everyone with sense would list for the same price or even 1 gil lower...no wonder the economies ruined.

People moan if they get under cut by 1 gil; people moan if they get under cut by more than one gil.

I only undercut by more when I want to get rid of crafting stuff when levelling it; there's just not enough space for stuff so undercut it is.

The economy is ruined because in 2.0 the prices were extremely high. Prices are settling at where they should be... deal with it

I agree. You put something up for sale and come back half an hour later to see the price has been undercut by 30k (including 2 10k chops). It's just insane... I've always thought that things should be worth the price of their materials plus a little for the time and a little more for HQ. Half the time, it's cheaper just to buy the premade items than to make them yourself. There are still some cheap low level things that give a decent profit, or random valuables like tier 4 materia, but if people are seriously undercutting by 10k a pop for items worth less than 100k (I'm talking HQ vanya and the like), something seems very off. I'm aware vanya isn't as good as many dungeon drops and tomes are getting easier to come by every week but they do sell relatively well if people will just show a little patience rather than chopping off their own nose in the rush for a quick buck.

Anyone selling stuff for less than NPC prices is, um, "unclear on the concept". It wastes their MB slots and anyone can buy it and resell to an NPC for a profit. Pro-tip: The original seller would get more, and instantly, by NPC'ing it... and the NPC price is shown on the item during the process of placing it on the MB(!).

As for other "undercutting", it is kind of "crazy-making" to see someone list their items at less than the currently-listed items. But understand two fundamental principles:
    1. The item probably did not cost the player actual gil, so it's seen as 100% profit, no matter what the price. and
    2. Many people (like me!) put stuff up at the current listed/sold prices, but come back half a day or a day later to find it unsold and a history of many sales at greatly lower pricing. Now refer to principle #1 above.

Early on in the game, when demand was high and supply was low, crafters & gatherers could get away with charging even 100x what it cost to make, and there would be a buyer. That time is gone, though it will recur at each new content during initial high scarcity. (Just look at Blue Fox Hide and BlueBird Minion pricing for current examples.)

Nothing like seeing someone undercut someone else by 100,000 Gil..... for a single, rare item that would sell at the higher price if you give it just a couple of days, but people are impatient, and this is the generation of instant gratification. They want to see that item become Gil right now, not in 2-3 days.

Then you buy the item that got undercut by a large amount and feel good about your purchase. I just save 30k!
