Dear Yoshi P Tank Mount will not help....

Q1: Despite the implementation of a role bonus, tanks still remain in short supply. Are you looking into any countermeasures for this?

A1: Looking at the data, we’ve found that there are quite a lot of tanks around level 40. While we are not sure whether or not these players will decide to continue leveling tank roles, and making it their main job, the actual numbers are increasing. If the supply of tanks remains low, we will look into introducing a special mount to help incentivize them.

Giving a Tank Mount as an incentive to get people to play as a tank will do nothing for a Tank shortage. Players will level to 50 just for the mount and most likely never play it again. How many players leveled CNJ to 30 for the Unicorn? I know I did.

I doubt simply leveling to 50 would grant someone the mount. I suspect it'd be like the commendation system, wherein you accrue points somehow - perhaps through a particular number of instance runs or something - in order to earn it.

I'm actually working on getting that unicorn right now lol. Considering I already have a lvl 50 WAR that's a free mount for me! The way I see it "tanks" are boring to use, you take hits, stand in one place for most of the fight, and for a lot of people, scared of the pressure to even try it because they don't want to labeled a bad tank, at least I did when I first started tanking. So they stick to dps since it's a lot safer than the alternative and the raid can carry on without you most of the time if you're down. I'll admit, I'm not impervious to it, I've been called a shit tank a few times starting out(still happens on occasions at lvl 50), mainly because I had no idea what I was doing, it stuck with me for awhile, until someone from Hyperion in a DF took the time to explain it to me and its pretty much been smooth sailing since. However, what usually makes me laugh is, it's usually a DPS player with no tank class that think he's a tanking expert.

Tanking is my favorite role! To me, it is the most interesting part of a fight. So, it's just a matter of taste I suppose. I tend to gravitate toward Tanking on every MMO I play. As a Tank, you're responsible for defending your party and maintaining order on the battlefield!

I don't think a mount incentive would be a great idea though. People should play different roles because they enjoy them and a mount should be an an added bonus to that enjoyment, not payment for playing in a way that you don't like.

Yes, but people actively play WHM more than Tanks. There is usually a fight over which Healer is better WHM or SCH. Blood is almost always drawn...So the Unicorn being a class specific mount to unlock isn't really incentive for CJN level up, just an added bonus when compared to Tank.

They could always lock the Mount so that you have to be in Tank Role to use it too. It be a bad move, but you'd play Tank more. Though I agree, no this will not help Tanks appear in Dungeons. I level up really fast by Fate hunting and doing other minor things Solo. Won't need a party to level up my tank if I ever play one.

I kinda forsee a quest at either the Maurader Guild or Gladiator guild if not in one of the small cities that dot the regions that only appears if you are a Tank. Like the End game dungeon missions that only appear once you've gotten to a certain area. if you never even start the class you won't see the marker, if you start it you get the red marker, if you are the appropriate level but wrong class you see the locked marker, and if you are appropriate level and class you see the gold marker.

They could make a "counter" which counts how many times you played Tank in a dungeon.
It only count up at high Lv dungeons.

And if you i.e. tanked 300 dungeons you get a bonus item or mount.

I know what would make this even better. Make it a Combo Achievement like "Armed to the Teeth", They could make it so players would have to do 30-50 runs of 5 different dungeons (or w/e) to complete the achievement? Cause if it was Free Choice on which dungeons people would spam the easiest one. Maybe they could do a mix 2-3 HM dungeons/Crystal Tower/ 1-2 different dungeons.

This is my favorite suggestion in this entire thread. Tying it to the Achievement system would be perfect!
