The game's in no imminent danger, but I can see a lot of vets getting sick of it down the road (myself included). They're doing a very good job of catering to the new MMO crowd (WoW/GW2) and not giving a damn about the concerns of JRPG/MMO vets who stuck it out with XI and others. I for one, really don't care for where the game's headed and I'm thinking of just leting my sub run out and then see what happens when the expansion comes around.

But I just can't get behind a game with long-term interest that effectively renders all the content of the previous patch moot. It's been over 3 years since XIV first launched and I've had my fill of disappointment. I'm happy for the folks who enjoy this sort of model, and more power to you - I just wish YP would take us XI vets concerns more seriously. I like XIV overall, I want to keep playing, but if they're just going to keep making more battles with ridiculous 1-hit kill gimmicks you have to dodge (as opposed to playing your job to its fullest in XI) and rendering older content obsolete & continuing to set future content up so it's better to focus on gearing a single class (in a game where a central feature is that you can play everything on 1 character) then no, I'm done.

Yes they need content in the style of XI in this game if they want it to survive longterm. Does it all need to be that... no that would be stupid.

Argue with me all you want but I am right on this one. It does not matter if you like XIV currently, the game as it stands will die if it is does not change its core model to expand to more of the playerbase with in the next year or 2.

Developing a game that is target 80% of the population sounds wise... but is it really. over 100 mmos target that same population including every other AAA mmo since WoW. Where so few give the 20% anything. The mainstream mmo market is too flooded to be successful.

The only obvious solution is try to target both the almost untouched market as well as the others.

How to save the game:

Make more variety of content.

Stop making primal fight after after fight HM, EX, etc mode
Stop making HM, EX, etc Dungeons
Stop making rotation/phases/in n out dodging/tank swap mechanics.
Make some interesting trash mobs and not just boss fights.
Less Fates more real open world content.

Quality of content > Quantity of content.

How to kill an argument: use strawmen fallacies. It to date is a 100% proven failed model. Also, don't forget to use expressions like "trust me in this one" and "you can argue with me but IM SO RIGHT GUYS", without actually providing any evidence, theoretical or practical, about why this is the case. Oh, and don't forget to place arbitrary numbers and percentages "All MMOs target the same 80% target audience! But nobody bothers with the 20%!" without any good justifications about those numbers except that they make work your argument.

The only obvious solution is to learn logic and stop being a twat.
