Scholar Stat Focus (MND or PEI)

I've now got a DPS and a Tank to 50 so my next task is going to be to level ACN to 50 and go into SCH, giving my a 50 in each role.

With SCH I'm a little confused on stats though. For my DPS (DRG) I just dumped everything into STR. For my Tank (WAR) I just dumped it all into VIT. With the SCH I'm seeing very mixed statements on what you want to take.

The stat for SCH is PEI (I thought) so one would assume that is where I want my stat dump. However, I'm seeing a lot of people saying I need to dump into MND for healing.

Dumping your stats into MND will make your heals a bit bigger (~50hp or so more at level 50), whereas dumping them into PIE will make your MP regen faster. Generally MP regen isn't too much of a problem anyway, but I would recommend trying out both and seeing which you think benefits you more.

Generally speaking, the bonus stat allocations don't make or break you anyway. You could put them in DEX or STR and not have any trouble completing content. People working on Turn 5 often put a few (or even all) in VIT for an extra cushion while learning, even.

Sch bring a piety bonus to the group but you want to stack mind above all else.

At the end of the day, if I want more piety I can usually shuffle gear to get it, as the game stands however I can't get any more mnd short of chugging potions.

As a Scholar, there is no reason to put any points into Piety. This is because Aetherflow.

I would also suggest a full MND build. If you are managing your mana properly you can effectively heal all content without any mana issues. As someone else mentioned, you can also stack materia into crafted gear for extra PIE. You cannot do this for MND.

The ONLY reason to get any stat other than mind is maybe Turn 5 for the HP check. I have mine put all into mind and never run out of mp. That's why we have aetherflow and energy drain.

PIE isn't necessarily about running out of MP. More max PIE = more MP regeneration. As it stands almost all healer gear has PIE on it innately though, with a few that lack it like i70 crafted accessories (assuming you don't meld it on), Direwolf Thighboots, or Vortex Ring of Healing. So sinking more into PIE than what you already get isn't necessary. Far from worthless though.

Just remember, combat MP regen is about 2% of your max MP every 3 seconds. So really, Aetherflow is just another 30 seconds of combat regen on the fly.

Having 5000 MP with 1000 MP Aetherflow is delicious. Keep your +40 Physick. I'll stick to Adloquium.

If I wanted large heals I'd switch to WHM or use Lustrate.

I was actually just wondering about this. As you get closer to i90, your equipment contributes larger amounts of mind inherently. In the endgame, adloquium becomes increasingly important, and increasingly mp intensive. Increased piety also gives you a bigger aetherflow boost. Does an endgame scholar benefit from being able to sustain frequent adloquium use longer with piety, or does the healing throughout from mind trump this?

Because Healing is so situational in this game, you can get away with doing whatever you want with your bonus attributes. (especially if you're i85+). You could put all 30 into DEX and still heal T5 without issues.

But because MP is rarely an issue, it seems you'll get more use going full MND.

fyi you can get up to 482 PIE and 470 MND with gear and buffs.
