Name Change Option

We need to have a name change option. We have server transfer options why can't we have name change options? Be it paid or not, it would be nice to be able to change your name instead of rerolling.

I feel like I speak for many in saying we're with you on this. Even my friend tried submitting a support ticket for a name change. At this point its just not something SE is interested in doing, they have said in an email to my friend that if enough demand they may consider it, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

In a game where you can choose to be every available class there's no need to reroll and make a new character which is why I think an option for name change is important since you will spend all your time on the one character. Some concerns were people would have massive friends lists and would loose track of who is who or people who were jerks can simply change their names, my solution was to do what Steam does and show the characters previous names... in game and on the Lodestone with a hover over or drop down display

Agreed. I have a Elezen BLM who has a french name and I keep getting /tell Salut! I hardly speak French haha. I want to change his name now. :/

SE gave us Fantasia, which allows for changing everything except starting class and name. If you want to change your character's gender, and it has a gender-specific name, there is a problem. You either have to keep that character's gender, or look foolish with a mismatched name. SE have officially stated that Fantasia will eventually be purchasable. I'm hoping they will give us the option to change our character name at that time.

Until they can implement this lovely idea, isn't there a workaround for this by using the world transfer system?
Basically you create a character on another world with the same name as you already have, and also create a new character on the world you are on (or world you want to be on) with the name you want to have) then do a world transfer... because the name is already taken you should be given the choice to choose a new name... then world transfer back but don't forget to delete the character with the name you want just before you transfer and viola you are now back to the world you want to be on with the new name lol.
I know it's a long way round, timely, and somewhat costly way to do it, but it should work if you really want to change you name. I know it worked on FFXI but havent tried it on FFXIV yet as I am happy with my name lol.

I agree a name change option is needed. I want to change to a female character but having the name of Robert does not look cool.

I actually wish they would never implement this. I see it as a fitting punishment for all the people who named their character something very stupid because they were sure they werent going to like the game and were just going to play to ruin it for others. Couple months later, they decide that they suddenly want to play seriously, so be it. They can start over if they like on a new character. But i like to continue to see all the names of people who felt they were too good for the game at first.

Overly harsh? Perhaps, but it's mostly people with names such as "Stinky Yourmom" and names like that anyhow.

The Namingway from FFIV comes to mind. It would be a fantastic throwback and be quite convenient as well you've got my thumb.
