If they would have released a better game, the FFXI fans wouldn't have anything to complain about though.

Sure, some of it is just veteran FFXI players wanting nostalgia or whatever. But also, a lot of it is that SE just flat out released a game that was not ready to be released. Almost a year in and it's still free to play, that proves it right there alone. They didn't have to make FFXI-2, I'm not sure many of us wanted that. But, it sure would have been nice if they used it as a foundation to build on at least, ya know, keep the good things and improve on them, take out/fix the bad things, and introduce new elements along the way.

blame FFXI fans all you want, but who did they expect the target audience to be, if not FFXI players? They shot themselves in the foot by alienating the majority of their fanbase(XI players).

none of these conversations would even be going on if they would have released a good game to begin with. The fanbase wouldn't be complaining, it wouldn't have been slammed by reviews, and it wouldn't be viewed as a huge disappointment by the majority of the gaming community.

The biggest problem with FFXIV is anti-modern-games people. You know, the people always screaming and crying for no AH, no jump, no swimming, no quest experience, no solo options, no global chat, etc.
