This is why I loved FF IV. There were things that would frog you, mini you, pig you, confuse you ect so you would have to use multi status removal uses. Then there was imp in VI where it was bad unless you went and got the armor that allowed you to be good while imped.
There is a confusion like bit on Bone Dragon in crystal tower (inflicts Hysteria I believe??) along with Dark Mist from Dira and Nemesis (though their attack just freezes you) .. nothing like running around in circles in poison.. >.<
I know of XI's Zombie affect, but I still loved it from FFVIII, cast it on Biggs, and then when Wedge tried to heal him, Biggs would get hurt and yell at him... good times.I can see it happen, later on in FFXI there were monsters which indeed charmed you and put you in a "costume" (Frogs that turned you into one and later on Vampyr mobs that would turn you into a bat.)
Also a status effect in FFXI, although not as you described.
All cures just stopped having any effect and the only way to get rid of it was to transfer it to the white mage with Sacrifice.
This can actually happen in this game. For example in Final Fantasy tactics, there was a stat, Bravery and the higher that stat the more damage and defense and what not you would get. But if your bravery was ever low, I believe 0 or 1, you would literally turn into a chicken. Now we have Determination, maybe if a boss puts a debuff that starts draining your determination if it isn't removed and your determination reaches 0, then your character would just sit down or go to sleep on the floor or something.
Other things that could be added would be turning you into a Chocobo.
Personally I would like to see a boss that has all sort of Mental powers and that it would affect how the game looks. Instead of charming you it makes all the players targetable and makes them look like him, so even though you are not charmed and can choose to do nothing, the boss can be healed or you can damage your allies. Another thign would be to turn your character into a very pixelated or blocky ps1 or ps2 graphics version of yourself.
Jack of all trades, Master of none!
