When playing as PLD and Healer, if I mark targets and a DPS insists on attacking the wrong target time after time, I let that dps get punched in the face several times.... Low lvl dungeons are easy enough to 3 man.

I've gone as far as not healing a dps as whm/sch for entire runs to a boss and as pld i've let a mob go loose on a dps and then after the pack is dead I gently remember people to attack my marks.

Yeah I wouldn't do this in a low level dungeon. I have a level 22 tank and if you just flash between dps rotations and hit both mobs there isn't really a problem. The mobs don't hit hard. If the tank did lose one lancer cooldowns would allow him to tank it just fine. I'd be surprised if you or your fairy pulled healing aggro healing them both.

As a tank, if a DPS insists on attacking the wrong targets (I mark everything), they get to deal with it. First time I will ask them to follow marks, and normally they do after that...but those that continue to attack the wrong mark get to play tank.

Its harder to do that as the heal with a random tank, since sometimes tanks just mark just to mark and don't actually care what the DPS does...but if you and the tank are on the same page you can do that

Honestly I don't think it is about being mean. People are noting "its a low level instance" but I think this is exactly why, after a few warnings, it is ok to let this happen. Low level instances set the bar for everything to come. I'd rather see them take some punishment at level 15, ask some questions/learn from the floor, than to subject people to what could wipe a group at higher levels.

I don't advocate being rude, but you were not. You gave them the warning they needed and let it be a learning experience.

Dps perspective if I go off target I do it being fully aware and expecting the healer to give me no support and that is the way it should be. That said in low level dungeons a proper use of cool downs makes melee dps more effective trash mob tanks. Emphasis on trash mobs.

For a lowb job I wouldn't bother with being overly confrontational. Teaching a lesson works sometimes but if the person is stubborn all you do is wasting your own and 2 other people's time. I'll just go with the flow and just relax and finish and go. If it's higher level content then it's different story. I won't heal knowing if LNC loses aggro the mob will come after me.

Thanks for all the replies! I will admit, I didn't think of switching the targets as people suggested, so I shall endeavour to suggest that to my tank next time.

Other than that, I probably would have kept healing him or kept Eos out but ... not sure why I decided to do it ... probably got sick of my tank whining to be honest ...

    Anyway, thanks again

Tank definitely could've switched targets to whatever the LNC was hitting - not ideal, of course, but it's better to adapt than to create friction. If the LNC then switched targets again, then you'd know he was a troll.

But as a healer, you've done nothing wrong. Tanks typically do the same thing by not pulling back. If DPS can't follow simple rules or instructions, let them kiss the cold floor until they do.

What pisses me off more than DPS who cannot attack the correct the target are the tanks and healers that decide they should just let people die to "teach them a lesson." I hate making a dungeon run longer than it needs to because I feel I need to punish those that don't listen. If I'm tanking, I'll just make sure that I'm putting in enough threat onto other targets so that no one pulls aggro, and as a healer I'll just toss extra heals if someone does get aggro (although at this point I would prefer if the tank could keep aggro on everything... it's not hard as a paladin so I would assume warriors have it much easier).

While it would be great if everyone did what they're supposed to, I still feel it is the tank's responsibility to keep aggro on everything and the healer's job to keep everyone alive, even if it means you have to pick up the slack of others. I'm not there to teach people how to play, I just want my experience and tomes so I'll do what I can to finish as quickly as possible, and letting people die does the exact opposite. Plus it would make me feel like a huge prick if I was to do something like that.

In a PUG, I would most likely not bother doing anything about it UNLESS we were in a dungeon where that kind of stuff would get us all killed. But for most low level dungeons, that kind of stuff doesn't matter much as they are easy to heal and you wont wipe because of something like that anyway. Letting the lancer die would only prolong the amount time needed to clear the dungeon anyway, I'd just want to get it over with then I wouldn't need to play with him anymore after that.

If it was in a FC party or something, I would most likely tell the member to attack the right targets since it's likely that I'll be grouping up with that party more than once.

Also, I never let players die if I can help it. I would tell them in chat instead, repeatably if needed.
