    Basic healing mechanic questions

A couple of basic healing mechanic questions-

    1) How does in-combat mana regen work? Is it just a flat percentage per tick?

    2) How do you calculate the average amount healed by a spell with the spell tooltip potency + character sheet healing potency stat?

    3) How does healing threat work? Is it 1 threat per heal, or .5 like in WoW? Does overhealing generate threat?

    1. It's a percentage of your max MP (I don't recall exactly how much). More MP = slightly better regen. Keep in mind shroud regen is a flat value regardless of your MP.

    2. I haven't ever seen a formula for this based on healing magic potency. A close approximation would be:

    Average healed = (Potency/300) x [((0.0114xMND + 0.00145xDTR + 0.3736) x Magic Damage) + (0.21xMND) + (0.11xDTR) + (0.00011316xMNDxDTR)]

but this is not 100% exact.

    3. 1 point of damage = 2 points of healing. Overhealing does produce enmity. Tanks have enmity modifiers that affect their threat level. Generally since 2.1, with even average tanks I don't ever take threat from healing alone

Those are good questions. And even better answers.

87/tic with 378 PIE (in party), max MP was 4391. Rate: 1.981% MP/tic
72/tic with 279 PIE (in party), max MP was 3642. Rate: 1.976% MP/tic

Tested as male Wildwood Elezen SHC. In-combat with both, of course. So over the course of a little over 2m30s, you will have naturally regen'd your whole MP.

Incidentally, in-combat TP regen is 60/tic.

5000 MP and I regen exactly 100 MP. In combat, in party.

    So like, 2% basically.

So quick question to add to this, anyone know exactly how long a tick is in FFXIV?

Yeah, those numbers look like 2% of total mp rounded down to the nearest whole number.

    Thanks for the answers, everyone.

One thing worth mentioning is that Heal-over-time spells produce enmity each tick, so try to refrain from using Regen or Eos's Whispering Dawn if you anticipate a boss spawning adds.

It's also why Medica II at the start of a fight is basically a death sentence, although it isn't as bad now that they reduced the potency but increased the duration.

    3) Threat generated = healing done / (2 * number of targets aggroed). Healing counts both normal healing and overhealing, so it's easy to do a blanket AoE heal and generate a ton of aggro on a single boss target. Other questions have been answered. HoTs ticking generates the same threat as healing someone. Other games usually don't count overhealing when determining threat.
