Anyone not so excited for 2.2 and the future of this game?

I absolutely love the music, artstyle and environments in this game definitely top notch..

But some of the design choices, just seem mind boggling to me, nerfing old content, making old gear useless, vertical progression, everything becoming increasingly instanced... It just sound like unsustainable development to me.

If they want people to play longer, why do they make it easier and easier to breeze through content just to cap you when you get to the end. & give you absolutely everything you need before then.

A year or so down the road, Titan, Ifrit, Garuda, Shiva will probably be completely forgotten and then the story has to become equally contrived just to keep up with the players own progress.
They seem so concerned with adding new content instead of making lasting, impressionable content.

I love the game alot, and want it to succeed, and enjoyed everything from 1 - 50, but I just can't see myself keep on subscribing.

The biggest thing is it doesn't feel like an FF, it feels like a generic MMO with amazing music and environments.

You can't make content last for years without forcing the players to repeat it for years (via FFXI-style super low drop rates). Gamers don't put up with that sort of thing anymore.

The Souls series has been doing mighty fine, those games have endless replayability because they have near endles depth

Can you post a link to the game, I've never heard of it.

@synaesthetic : Sure you can make old content relevant. It just involves proper planning and establishing long term goals.
What is to stop SE from making Primal Extremes (including shiva/leviathan/ramuh) a prerequisite to fight another stronger primal, like say Fenrir or Alexander?

I think the people who didn't like XI are the people who were just too casual and lazy to experience it. SE shouldn't be aiming to please Blizzard fans and recreate WoW; they should be studying what worked in XI and previous FF titles and use that as their benchmark(s).
Besides, no one will ever make a WoW that is more WoW than WoW. so stop it SE. Have some self respect and dignity.

That's neat, people should all not work and play more so that developers can aim for more RNG based MMOs because that would bring them more money.

The game is more casual friendly because there are more casual gamers out there, gamers who can play 6h+ a day ain't even 2% of the actual player base, I'm sure of it.

If people want games whee you need lots of time and effort to get anything they should play more Korean games then.
Maybe that would please them more.

And SE is not copying WoW they're just making the game more casual friendly and guess who are the majority players in wow... the casual gamers.

Marketing the game for casual gamers is what allowed SE to make a profit off this game, and they will ultimately be the the downfall of the game.

Personally, I love this game. It's the best MMO I've ever played. And with Gold Saucer mini-games, Chocobo racing/breeding, and Musketeer all but confirmed, I think there's loads to look forward to. I'm even excited about the Leviathan/Sahagin beast tribe stuff coming up.

    So there.

Dark Souls by From Software, the 'Soul Series' starts with Demon Souls exclusive to PS3, but have migrated to PC, and Xbox
Basically they're hardcore A-RPGs, they have very dark fantasy themes, rich and deep lore that you have to explore to find, very deep combat mechanics with near endless possibilites to builds, if you wanna beat the game at Soul Level 1 dual wielding shields, go do it, armour and weapons aren't as important as planning, patience and skill, and being able to learn from your mistakes/
There's soo many secrets, the games been out for years but the community still learns things about it, it is a deeply punishing game, that won't hesitate for a second to murder you steal your souls (experience and currency basically) and humanity (another form of currency) but it is deeply fair, and not once did I feel like it was a cheap game. There's usual small hints beforetraps, that are super subtle you must be observant and an explorer.
There were 2 amaaaazing maps in the game completely hidden, without an amazing sense of curiosity and exploration and observation, or a guide... you'd never find them.
Everything in the game was viable, if you wanna beat the game dressed up in dark robes and a scythe to look like Death, go get them, if you want to beat the game in your starting gear, enjoy.
As welll as the most innovative and amazing online features ever, you can see other peoples ghosts in realtime as they play the game (but can't interact with them) to let you know the game isn't so empty and others are suffering with you, you can leave messages warning others of traps, or tricking them to their doom, once you die your bloodstain is seen in others worlds and people can walk to it and watch how your ghost died, hopefully to plan ahead, there's also summons and invaders, if you see a white sign when you're alive, you can use it to summon another human player to help you, no voice chat, no messaging just a player sent to help you. Then there are invaders, which are other players that can forcefully invade your game to kill you if you're alive to steal your souls and humanity (part of the lore as well), not to mention covenants.
Coveneants are essentially factions of NPCs you can join, with different purposes, say the Darkwraiths devote themselves to invading other players, the Darkmoons on the other hands are the cops of the world, they invade 'sinners' (invaders), there's also Forest Hunters, who are summoned to the Darkroot Forest to protect it from tresspassers, and Gravelords who infect your game and make it tougher, and the only way to cure it is if you find them and kill them.

The 'Souls' games are brilliantly constructed on so many levels. Exploration, mystery, combat, gear, difficulty, danger, story, atmosphere... I really can't wait for DSII.

Monster Hunter is the other game I hold up as a model for others. It's punishingly difficult to careless players, but rewarding to those who those take the time to learn. The MH gear system is one of the best ever devised due to it's bonus/penalty system. Also, there is no character level progression in MH. Your ability to progress in the game is determined by a mixture of gear and skill.

Oddly enough, neither game allows you to talk directly to the people you play with.... I wonder if that is a coincidence.. <.<

Unless the low drop rate items are actually going to be good for the next couple of years rather than the next few months.

And low drop rates? There's plenty of coil gear I've yet to see drop after doing coil for 3+ months.

And yeah, the nerf to blm single target damage and the refusal to fix firestarter procs showed they really can't be bothered to fix things, just waiting for the next big thing that hits and will affect me to quit.
