    MNK - Skill speed/Crit rate Vs Det/Crit

    Hello fellow monks!

It's been said many times that Determination has much more weight than Skill speed. Problem with skill speed is that it has a diminishing return which makes it not worth it; on top of that, it may cause TP issues on longer fights.

I've come to a point where my MNK has enough gear pieces to play with different sets: SS/Crit and Acc/Det/Crit. I find it much smoother to play SS/Crit on fights like Garuda/Titan where I can take a short break in between phases and GL stacks build up a bit faster.

Overall, I was surprised to see how fun it is to play with SS/crit as I've been sticking with Det/Crit until now. If TP is not an issue, you should definitely give it a try!

Only problem is, barring the jumping primals, imalways low on TP. Even with invigorate. My TP is a massive burden on me. The BRD is also too busy using Ballad so i have to systematically lower my dps. Yes SS that make sa difference would be nice, but any faster TP usage and i may not well be there lol. Im out of TP in Turn 4 pretty much 1/3 the fight, and against ultima its no different. For most fights i can maintain GL3 which also is a double edged sword as the faster you hit the faster you burn tp xD

This is why i shy away from SS, that and the fact that it really does give the lowest benefit to my overall DPS.

Thanks for the info though I am sure someone will wanna try something different xD

Skill speed has the opposite of diminishing returns. While each point reduces the GCD by a static amount, this becomes proportionally larger as your GCD shrinks.

I can see your point for fights where you have to take breaks no matter what you want, like Titan or Garuda. I believe TP would not be a problem there, and as you're quite overgeared, it can be fun enough even if perhaps it's not as efficient.

But hey, we're here to have fun, and if it gets the job done regardless, who cares?

Eh, youd need too much determination for it to make a noticeable difference. i cant remember the ratio, but it aint pretty. Im more of a fan of Skill Speed solely due to personal preference. Also, it scales well with monk's GL. this being said, I do have invigorate, and dont have to use it TOO often (have not done EX primals or coil). I think the only time it truly became an issue was when I was running Wanderer's Palace when i first hit 50 and spammed AoEs with Perfect Balance all day.

Edit: Increased Skill Speed also makes it easier to maintain GL stacks

Skillspeed is nice there was a time i stacked a bit of it.... (TY AF2) but aside from that only reason to have skillspeed a bit high was due to TS been 12sec before so more skillspeed meant u can do true strike or ID without losing it but now since TS is 15 sec there not much for skillspeed but i still like to maintain a nice number for personal preferences

in many cases I've found that during EX primals my GL goes off or stays on depending on the last second. so having skill speed in fights where you move a lot is quite helpful. I even switch to fists of the wind just to get to hit the next target faster.
in mostly static fights TP is a huge issue so stacking DET or CRT should be the way to go. due to the nerf to cross classed b4b and ir I'm of the opinion that mnks should stack DET while DRG should stack CRT. but that's just me.
