More than one DPS class? (Black Mage and other)

So, I have a level 50 BLM and currently working on tanking and healing classes. I was wondering if it would be pointless to start another DPS class (thinking of Monk) since none of their skills will benefit my BLM and considering I already have a level 50 DPS class. Any thoughts?

If you enjoy it, level it. I have WAR, PLD, MNK, SMN, SCH all 50s and relic (leveling BLM) and I enjoy switching between them for various reasons whether I'm bored or to help other people. MNK and BLM can fulfill different roles in a full party other than both DPS. Their LB is different for example and variety is always good.

All the classes have different uses.

BLM shines in either large group AE's or single target low HP mobs that need to die fast. Examples, Napalms in CT, WP Speed runs, etc

SMN shines in small group AE and longer lasting single targets. Bosses and normal pull packs or 4 or less.

MNK shines in single target. Bosses.

While you can use any of the above for anything, I myself like to switch it up to optimize what I need to do. For example, Turn 1 in Coil has no special needs.. so Monk is a great choice. Turn 4, however, I go BLM to burn down adds quick.

Being a swiss army knife is not a bad thing.

If your main is BLM, if anything you'd want to level Archer/Bard to 34 for Raging Strikes and Quelling Strikes.

My main is DRG, and I consider it the only DPS I have leveled right now. I also have both Healers and Tanks leveled and geared (yes, I know I have SMN leveled too, but I don't use it at all and have no intentions of using it unless I want to troll people...yeah, I'm that bad at it).

I am leveling BLM right now, and am thinking of actually using it. So far I'm having fun with it, and its not nearly as complicated as DRG, so I'll use it when I feel like being a lazy DPS (and I don't want to hear BLM saying its hard...just recall what your ideal rotation is and compare it to DRG...)

Level a melee. Yeah, you have to work for your DPS and endure the stigma being a melee brings, but I do recommend all ranged to be a melee so they know what its like at least. Besides, its a lot of fun and a lot more challenging.

Rotation is simple. Maximizing your dps around cast times and mechanics is not.

it is resonable to have more than one dps class.

First off you have to level other dps classes alot to have all the cross class skills. Different dps have different advantages. For example i have bard and monk. I can provide silences and infinite mana as bard. then when our party needs MORE damage i can be melee and melt faces.

As one who got drg and blm 50 I can safely say that it depends on the fight. Titan is a joke as drg but its a pita on blm to dodge and manage a decent dps.
