tanking is instant queue.
Increase party size to 5 and make the dungeons have more adds to justify the extra dps slot.
I'm sure the servers can handle... Gasp... 5 people in one instance.
It's a flaw of the "trinity" of MMO games. 1)DPS 2)Healer 3)Tank
Everyone wants to be a dps for whatever reason. First off, out in the open world, you can kill stuff dead. Want to farm any particular mob? You are better off a dps, it will go much quicker.
Dps usually say being a tank is boring! Well, better not say that too loudly, if you are right, all your tanks might decide to quit the game and go back to knitting or back to performing jigsaw puzzles for their cat or whatever uninteresting task they do to pass the time!
*Eyes knitting from across the room longingly*
Aside from the technical aspect then you have to go back and re-balance every single bit of group content to account for 5/10/30 man units instead of 4/8/24.
I respect your viewpoint but disagree, tanking is more difficult than dealing dmg. As a tank, you have to control the room. There is also usually one more tank in your full party (with the exception of 24 man raids), and both have specific responsibilities that more than often differ from the other. For this reason, you can't really jump into a random instance without knowing the fight and follow the other tank's lead. However, there are 3 other DPS you can take notes from as they're doing their thing. Chances are, someone knows what's going on and you can follow with relative ease. Even if you don't know who to target immediately and dmg lacks as a result, this is not a deal-breaker since the other three can keep it up until you catch on.
I'm not saying DPS players are just carefree in their role either. Lots of instances require hard-hitting damage dealers to drop targets quickly for the win. But if a tank doesn't know what's going on-- it's usually a wipe.
As for the DF q times-- yea they're not the greatest. The image posted from the OP was just mind-blowingly ridiculous. I've never had it that bad with any class, but then again I've never waited that long either. Looks like something screwed up. SE is giving incentive to play tanks though. You get slightly higher rewards for the duty roulette. I know that's not much, but it shows they're working to make our experience a better one. If the rewards were so blatantly thrown in our faces, I don't doubt people would begin to complain about how unfair it is tanks get special treatment. The tri-fecta of classic mmos is what it is. Love it or hate it, there's not much the system can do to make up for a lack of players in specific classes.
Depends.
Dungeons? No, tanking is harder than dps.
Some boss fights like Titan and Ifrit HM? Yes, tanking is easier.
I don't think raising the ratio of DPS to healer and tank will actually solve much because it'd lead to healers and tanks being even more difficult to play in a PUG and so even less people will want to do it.
Would making Tanks and Healers bypassable to all servers instead of a group help at all? Minus the language barriers of course. Keep DPS in their server groups and Tanks/Healers to ALL English or Japanese servers... just throwing that out there. Prolly a coding nightmare or something.
If you don't have a tank levelled I can't fathom why you aren't doing it right now and using your daily low level roulette on it.
You get showered with exp and commendations, instant queues, no more boring fates. This game offers tons of incentive to fill in-demand jobs, more so than most games. I've been levelling one entirely on dungeons and it's been fun, I want to be the sort of tank I enjoy playing with as a DD.
