People in here saying things like "just roll a tank" are being ridiculous; if you already have your tanks leveled and BiS you naturally move on to new jobs. The first 2 jobs I got to 50 were Warrior and Paladin. I just leveled bard to 50 and it was impossible to find a duty in less than an hour, I had to make people on my friend's list level up tank jobs so I could duty finder with them. The problem is that there are too few tank and healer classes and too many DPS classes. Of course most players will take easy mode and roll only DPS, so naturally you should make more tank/healer roles to entice people to play them. Waiting for an expansion/2.3 to add these new jobs is just going to drive more players away from the game in the interim period.
It's a shame, that this is probably such a huge contributing factor. I actually greatly enjoy tanking, and I spent years playing a tank in WoW - it's fun being a leader, and there's something incredibly satisfying about rounding up an entire room of mobs that want to eat your face. But in the end, it was mostly this abuse and inconsideration that shied me away from the role. I'm still considering rolling a PLD as my next job, but making the decision to face the impatience and occasional cruelty of much of the playerbase is absolutely daunting, so I'm not sure I'll get up the gumption enough to give it a real go. Maybe I've become a little too sensitive in my old age. Be nice to your tanks, guys! Maybe then there'll be more of 'em!
Nah, you would actually know when this happens. It would show that forming the party is complete, but that it's reserving the instance.
The point which seems to have completely flown over your head is that the DF is there to facilitate parties for all roles. The fact you claim DD jobs will never get a party using DF would seem to indicate the current system is utterly broken and unfit for purpose.
Yes. It's meant to facilitate parties for all roles and it's working just as intended. It isn't the system's fault that players aren't playing as much tanks.
Then they need to adjust their encounter design to compensate for the ever present lag that is making tanking for many people unenjoyable, frustrating, or borderline impossible. My first job to 50 was a Paladin and I shelved it to level Monk. Not because I wanted an easy ride, simply because due to the current game design I was feeling like an idiot because despite moving out of AoEs I was still being hit by them. Tanking simply is not fun in this game for that reason and no amount of new roles will change that.
This is my healer queue recently. However there is a bug - notice the "Average Wait Time" is blank, I was told by a FC mate, this indicator of glitch in the ques. He told me to re-queue duty finder and it would work, and it did. Only waited 2 minutes after I left duty finder and reapplied.
