That's part of your problem. You expect it to be like games prior to it. This is FFXIV not FFXI to use your format. Also, they ARE doing it to other classes when new jobs get introduced. Pretty well known that they are as well. I LIKE it this way, the stats don't mean a whole lot, so even if you never put any in you could still do fine.

Actually no, I do not expect it to be like games before it. If it was I wouldn't play it. I did all jobs to cap in 11. been there, done that. my point is simply the game is great, but this mechanic is a flaw in the design that if protracted to future jobs and classes will force us to play a gimped job/class. Let each job stand alone. Let players have the choice in every job, not all but 2, or for the future all but 4,5,6 of the jobs. Leave the basics to the basics. Let us decide how we want to play in a uniform way. Doing this to any job places one or the other at a disadvantage. Its about parity, not preference.

I think it might be better if they only allowed you to accept either scholar or summoner and you had to stick with it. There could even be a quest to "undo" that choice, but doing so would mean that you'd lose access to the skills of the other. Maybe a tearful goodbye to your fairies as a Egi strolled up and gave them a good punt away. :P

In a way, having both unlocked fully, with this just minor difference of the skill point focus, is kind of a bit teasing. Sure, you can buy one of those scrolls or whatever and switch them out. But the fact that you can switch to the other job at anytime, means you can play a weaker version of that job. Which also means, when you group up with someone, they may not understand why you can't perform your best. Maybe the skill point thing didn't really click and you are just trying to play both. So then you are trying to complete some content with them, and they just don't get why your heals/dps are just a bit weaker than normal...etc Maybe people even would get mad at you for not pulling your weight, and really, you could be doing your best...

So yea, I just think that there should be more of a "choice" quest-wise. This skill point thing isn't really very obvious to everyone. After all, there isn't really a breakdown as to how much of a stat gives what percentage of a difference in abilities.

Source? I haven't read or heard anything about this beyond rumors that are spread all over forums (like the current musketeer for 2.2 rumor). I'm not saying you're lying or anything, but I don't exactly watch every single live letter either. I've never seen anything official that stated every single class was going to spin-off into 2+ jobs with different primary stats.

Just because developer say it's intended doesn't mean it's not flawed.

It's like how Yoshi said Warrior was fine as it is, and yet many people complained how Warrior is the underdog.

They've talked about it since we heard Summoner and Scholar came from ACN.

I used to raid as a blood and unholy death knight. I was the "backup tank" (for fights that needed two tanks). I'd play both at optimal levels, including the gearing (tokens meant I could choose between a DPS or tank piece). Just press N, change spec, change the gear set, press the Blood/Unholy Presence button, and done.

But here if I want to change role within the same class I have to be weaker, period. So I get an advantage of 10 hours (the time it takes from lv 1 - 50), and a disvantage for a life time.

Time for alts, I guess. Oh wait, but the sub gets more expensive... now it makes sense.

Pretty much this, can't think of any Final Fantasy with a job system that limits you stat wise to sticking to a job like ARR does with SMN/SCH, then again I also can't think of any that has stat allocation like this, it's simply a bad design decision that will get worse the more branching jobs are added. Makes you think if the fans that keep defending this limitation by design are really Final Fantasy fans or if they've even played most of the games.

    This is working as intended.
Its unfortunate that you like both Summoner and Scholar.
I would make a different dps class or a different healer class, then youll have one of both. But going half and half points works too.

Just let SMN equip cleric stance, then put all your points in mind.

    Objections?
