You have a good point but considering it's the mass market here that they're targeting how long can it be expected to hold a large subscription base, or even generate new sales I wonder.I think there was quite a strong need to go down this path from SE's perspective. It wouldn't surprise me if SE continue to play it safe until they recover whatever stupendous sum of money FFXIV has already cost them. After that, we might start to see some more 'out there' features, like Lalafell trebuchet.
i wouldn't be surprised having dual console releases with teso makes me think the same now whats a console release without micro transactions/cash shop although with ffxiv there not much you can't blast through in a few weeks of solid gaming
Don't forget that, at least last I heard, TESO will segregate players... PC and console players won't ever meet each other...
I couldn't agree more on the rationale, but couldn't disagree more on the execution.
FFX-2, FFXIII, FFXIII-2 and now FFXIII - LR are horrible games. They completely broke away from FF tradition. FFXII's major sin was turning Avatars such as Odin and Alexander into lame airships. Where is the "Fantasy in that?" But FF12 was still much better than anything after it.
Square soft spent 2 decades building up a fan base and then completely alienated them. We were all 6-10 years old when we started playing Final Fantasy titles. Today we are part of the demographic with disposable income and looking to be entertained more than any previous generation.
Hollywood got it right. Its been nothing but Blockboster Marvel/DC superhero movies for the past 15 years. Avengers anyone?
That demographic is MALE, in mid 20's to early 30's.
SE needs to quit making content exclusively for 15-25 Year Old ADD girls.
EDIT: Before any quotes XIII sales vs FFVII, please remember to look at what % of global sales FFVII represented vs XIII.
The game market has grown exponentially over the past decade. I think it was proven that XIII would have had to done 6x as well sales wise to equal the success of FFVII.

if they are separating consoles as well ( of which i think will be highly likely sony and microsoft rarely play nice with each other) then there losing my money.. might test it out on the mac at release and pray ffxiv gives me something worth while .. might seem a bit stupid but i would have kinda welcomed the split with this game being the obvious differences between the 2 systems might have made it a little nicer i do feel they lose so much with the ps3 version
I feel its too early for me to judge the game. It has too many half open concepts and unfinished ideas... (IE: CT is only the entrance, not even the tower. Not all the zones are open, so who knows what will be there, the level cap still needs to be raised and who knows maybe it's easy to 50 and it will be harder after this? And well still need BLOODY MUSKETEER, LIKE PROMISED! *sigh*)
I will agree OP, it seems like every time something seems a bit challenging SE seems to nerf it and make it easier. Like Moogle... I can only speak for myself and all the people I know... but I didn't know anyone who had an issue with that fight once they got it down. Personally I didn't see where it needed to be nerfed, but SE will do what SE will do.
But in all honesty I've never played a MMO where I was totally blown away with it from day one, so I am giving it til the first major expansion unless they really do something to mess it up bad. Even though I love a game that is hard and takes time, and gives me a bit of challenge... it seems that I just have to accept that more people are casual and therefore want casual games. Can't say I agree 100% with the way MMOs seem to be going, but then again I am one person.
But what it comes down to: We are all people with free will. If players don't like the game they are free to move on to something else. If players like it well then, no issue. SE isn't forcing us to stay, but I have been a Final Fantasy fan for a long time, so (just like playing 1.0 from start) I'm willing to give them time to show me what they can do with this "Reborn" game.
I'm just a bun boy, doing bun boy things.
You said it yourself, you can't compare the sales, in number of sells or in % of global sales, times are differents.EDIT: Before any quotes XIII sales vs FFVII, please remember to look at what % of global sales FFVII represented vs XIII.

Strangely i didn't like FFXII and liked FFX-2 and the FXIIIs games. That's not because you don't like them that they are terrible ( btw all or most of FF titles, new and olds, are not so good, but nostalgia googles help a lot )

That is really a double edged sword, it because of gamers that content is released like that and those same gamers beat the content and then complain about it. Are they the type that beat a game and then replays it or do they beat the game and never play it again? If the second a MMO especially a newer one is not for them.
