This game was looking like it was going to be much different from other games on the market in 1.0. A game with a gigantic open world to be explored, where you could main a crafting, gathering or combat job, each playing an important role in the world and interacting with each other. It wasn't all implemented well and felt for the most part unfinished, like a template for an interesting game that should have never been released in the state it was in.

Instead of trying to flesh out their original concepts, it seems like they instead put together a team to try to mold this game into what every other game on the market is. Quick, easy leveling, menial quests, handing out gear like candy, every important piece of content becomes instanced and the main world is basically a hub for people to queue up for those instances. Like it or not, it's what we have for now.

The average age of the MMO player has gone up and very few of us have the time to dedicate four hours or more to maybe get something done. I have a life outside of MMOs. I used to play FFXI before Abyssea, when Promathia was the newest expansion. You literally had to have at least four or five hours planned out ahead of time to sit down and play non-stop to actually make any progress. Those kind of games just don't resonate with people in their late twenties and early thirties who have jobs, lives outside of gaming and other things to do.

These games aren't intended or designed for people who need to play 8-12 hours a day. They just aren't.

Lol, I already Un-Subbed just waiting for my time to end that I paid for. Game to easy and anyone that saves turn BC is hard your full of your self. It's so easy with a good party and all gear is so easy to get other than BC but who cares just get MG. Game was god for about 2months but after that it was same thing every day nothing new or hard to work for.

If it's so easy with a good party, why don't you unlock your lodestone achievement page and show that you've beaten it with your i74 bard?
Or is your claim that it's so easy just based on what you believe? Or just heard someone else say?

If this is honestly the best they could do... ugh..
I thought they changed to entire dev team after the fail of 1.0.
And imo FFXIV is the best MMO at its release from what i played(even if it's far away from what it should be),now i just need to see if they can keep adding new content fast enough.

I dunno, I'm what people call casual player, I've only finished main story a couple of days before 2.1 patch was released, and I still haven't done everything 2.1 had to offer, so I'm still pretty excited to see what 2.2 will bring to us since I still have lots of things to do in-game right now. Can't say much on behalf of those who probably play the game for more time and probably better than I though. I also haven't played FFXI (I wasn't into mmorpg back then) so I can't compare both games.

PS.: I've started playing this game on beta 4 so yeah, it took a couple of months for me to finish the story.

Personally, I love this game. It's the best MMO I've ever played. And with Gold Saucer mini-games, Chocobo racing/breeding, and Musketeer all but confirmed, I think there's loads to look forward to. I'm even excited about the Leviathan/Sahagin beast tribe stuff coming up.

    So there.

I'm not sure what it is you're trying to convince me of. You basically re-stated what I already was getting at. SE has gone with the mass market approach and molded their game extremely accessible, similar to other games on the market which is the safest route any developer can take. It may be that the majority of gamers don't want a large world to explore, or pesky crafting/gathering jobs playing an important role in the world, or quests that involve more than walking four feet over and picking a few turnips from the ground. The game was remade to try and garner as many players as possible. I'm not under any delusions that this was not the case.

I'm in the same idea after sticking with original 14, ARR is the most bland game ive ever played i keep telling myself it will get better but it wont. Gear progression looks like its going to stay boring bland and a mix of 4 stats in 1.23 you got a relic it had added affects you get a relic now and its a pos, easy to obtain and not much reason to use anything else,

The combat failed hard when they decided to use a global cool down system and make fights face rollable, and honestly i cant see them ever moving away from the 2 2 4 format which causes stagnation pretty fast, the entire game is easy and quite frankly i got bored of coil so much ive stopped doing it. The amount of meaningful content is a joke, dailies are boring as hell and really dont have much reward for them. and what are we going to get in 2.2 more coil another primal (wow havent seen that before) and maybe a new class that will just be another bland dps.

After everyone gets a full set of the highest item level gear and completes all of the hardest content then what's left? The only possible answer to that question is absolutely nothing at all.
