You people really need to get over the impending shutdown of this game thing.. SE has sunk way to much money into this game to let it die, and they certainly wont kill it before they attempt to fix it.. ridiculous.
Money spent in the past does not always justify spending more money. Especially when you have stockholders to account to. There is a phrase called "cutting your losses", which, while painful, may apply in this situation.
Put another way; for every dollar and man hour now spent developing and "fixing" this game, the game has to become a bigger and bigger hit to recoup the investment. So, as they keep spending money, their investment in the game grows; and the game has to be that much more successful (more subscribers and game longevity) in order for them to make that money back.
At some point you have to say; this is enough, we've put so much money into the game that it does not look forseeable that we will ever make our original investment back. Or, this is enough, we've put so much money into this game that it does not look forseeable that we will ever make an acceptable profit with this game. Both of those are highly subjective statements of course, but the person who will ultimately be making the decision is Wada, a businessman. Money is probably the number 1 deciding factor to him.
Just my 2 cents (coming from someone who is not currently playing the game, thus I hopefully have some distance).

Would you calm the behjeezus down? Nothing has suggested that the game indeed will shut down, but unfortunately for you, there is undeniable evidence that even the producer entertains it as a possibility... Which to any rational person leads to concern.
In addition, Jibe's post above mine is a fair and true approach as well. The reality just isn't always pretty.

FFXIV will continue to be worked on and updated until PS3 hits. From there if it gets good reception and does well in the JP/International Market then the game will stay alive. If it dive bombs again then they will shut it off. SE has blatantly said as much "PS3 is our last hope".
These forums are nothing but Premature Speculation 24/7.
Why were there minimum party size requirements in the first place? I doubt that most people will prefer to need 8 members to get into the dungeon or else go home.
LS leaders will need to either only tell 8 people to show up and risk someone not showing and then no one gets to play. Or, tell many and risk having to tell the extras that they cannot join.
to admit fault and express frustrations bluntly i fully respect him.
Thank you for the post.
As for the shut down, it can happen. Dont think because it's SE it wont. They have the money to push it further than most other companies but other companies shut-down within their first year and SE is coming up to that year. If XIV cant make a profit and never does, it has to be shut-down, SE don't grow money on trees. If you was a shareholder would you invest in SE? I would not. I wouldn't even pay $15/m on this game.
wow ok this is my first post but i have been reading alot on these things. and i just got this to say . you peopel are insain...just pure nuts . just stop with the negitive. so because he says as long as the operation countinues blah blah you people go in to the extreme . its just like saying as long as operations for wow countinue or as long as operations for ffxi countinue . hes not saying its gonna end hes just saying as long as they work on it.
Yoshi will finish the game and die of a heart attack and no one will care because you have your pretty baubles to play with. Lay off the man already, let them work!
Stop trying to make this game for kids!!if necessary I will implement a mini-patch to ease up on the restrictions.
If you want to make it harder for us to clear stuff do it and don't listen to anyone except your self and your team. Back in the old days a lot of players asked SE to make CoP mission's easier but guess what? they didn't listen to them and the game was a great MMORPG for many years!! and the ship fight was the greatest mission i did in my life!!
