No materia slots in end-game gear..

    ..WHY ?

I was excited when I heard you could meld materias in your gear to boost chosen attributes (played too much FFVII?). But I just realized the only time I could use some was during my Relic Reborn quests...

Am I the only one who wants more options about end-game stats/attributes than :
Hunt your higher iLv.class-set -> equip it.

    ?

This bothered me as well. Endgame gear should have some materia slots but no ability to overmeld. This would actually get people to buy more crafted gear and spirit bond it.

Yep, crafting, materia, and dyeing are not involved in any capacity for endgame gear. It is really disappointing me.

Because it would just be another barrier to end-game content, and people will just follow guides in what to meld, and it end up being a super boring step that you have to go through for every piece you get.

add to that is the fact that as a blm main i can't add intelligence to my vanya set..... that's one of the main things i would want to put on it. i could understand not being able to put more than 1 materia of the main stats on and have to meld other stuff after, but come on.

Barrier? Is this some kind of a joke? It's currently very easy to obtain tier IV materia nowadays, and if they mess up the melds there's an NPC that'll remove materia from gear.

If anything it'll increase the demand for materia. Something the current economy desperately needs: market demand.

They need to add materia slots to endgame gear. One or two.

Then they need to allow you to convert gear over i70 into materia that provides super cool special abilities. *COUGHcutx4COUGH*

And then the melding needs to be done by the appropriate hand disciple. Or require items that only they can make.

Or SOMETHING, my god it's highly ironic that this is the only game i've played in my entire life where i actually liked the crafting system, and it becomes utterly useless the moment your battle class hits level 45.

ilevel 90 PvP gear have materia slots, but the materias only work in PvP

SE should give ilevel 80+ gears materia slots or give crafters recipes for ilevel 80+ gears.
And rare materias that are only obtainable from spiritbounding endgame gears (ilevel 80 or higher), like the TP materia from primal weapons during 1.0

Honestly, I think most people who want materia slots don't understand how expensive/consuming it will be to meld. I think most people think it's a matter of maybe a few losses. Try penta-melding a ring (one 100% slot). I can easily go through 30+ Tier III just trying to get the 4th overmeld. Heck, in many cases 30+ just getting a 3rd overmeld... 10-20+ for the 2nd. It'll be good for the sales, definitely, but supply is a HUGE problem at that point, meaning costs go up significantly. With the current system, materia supply would never be able to keep up with demand if instance/raid gear had materia slots.

Not being able to overmeld would be interesting, but that does also mean you'd probably be getting the gear nerfed in some way. It might switch out the crit for det maybe, as a base stat, and you'll need to meld crit to it (but possibly at a smaller cap). The gear would likely follow similar rules to the crafted stuff that's why.

I think adding materia to endgame gear would do wonders for crafting classes. Anything to make us actually useful would be amazing.

It's the only game where I really enjoyed crafting as well. They made a great system to start with.
Guess we'll have to wait and see if SE will make us useful eventually or just toss crafting out like trash and forget about us.
But I'm hoping that if we have enough people speak up about this, SE will give in and show crafting classes some love.
