my appearance should have little to no bearing on your game play. what i deem to be vanity is none of the OP's business
if i want to raid titan in a bikini its my business, not yours

You can raid Titan in a bikini. You're just gonna get your ass kicked.
That's honestly how I like it, it's something about FFXIV that most other MMOs have abandoned in favor of fanservice because players feel like they're entitled to whatever they want.
you tell me? youre the one who said i would get my ass kicked. in any case i was just using that as an example, the OP said seasonal gear would "ruin his immersion" the premise of my response is who gives a crap about your immersion. what about MY immersion, its my char, i pay the sub, i unlocked the gear, if a vanity system is ever released i should be able to put whatever i want in those slots. after all, why go thru the work of unlocking special or seasonal gear if we cant use it?
Well that's what the discussion is about. You paid the sub, you unlocked the gear, but the developers have no obligation to make the clothing you want to wear have stats they didnt intend for them to have. Of course they themselves mentioned they're adding vanity slots, so now we're just guessing over how lenient the system will be.
The whole point is, you CAN use the seasonal gear. It works. I use it all the time. There's no restriction to wearing it, but there are consequences as they are not battle-intended. But on the subject of "your immersion vs. my immersion", this is really more like "How it is vs. How i think it should be".
But anyone who argues that the current setup of gear/stat relationship is somehow independent of global immersion really is just being egocentric. If Square didn't care, then they'd have made it "equip what you want" and then created a bunch of random manga outfits for you to throw on.
You know. Like XIII-3.

being able to wear it around town when bs'ing with your friends and being able to wear it when you are actually playing the game(eg raiding, dungeons, quests) are very different. ive seen some pretty cool and unique vanity set-ups that were a combination of seasonal and regular gear, it would just be a shame to have a restriction on it when it has little to no bearing on gameplay or mechanics.
why such an uproar over this? the people that are purists can still wear whatever makes them happy. everyone else that just wants to look good while still being able to perform your job and not like a clone of every other high lvl character can be happy
a non restricted vanity slot system would be a win/win for everyone
you can do amazingly creative things by using seasonal/event gear. and without vanity slots people are still dressing as snowmen and wearing bikinis and crap anyways. At least now they can wear it and not lose stats like they do now. even take a look at the story...some of the quests....some of it (alot of it) is goofy. so the thought that these outfits ruin it for you just baffles me.
