Question and concerns about the vanity sytem..

I hate seeing people raid in ridiculous seasonal gear, but I'm willing to give that in exchange for allowing us to replace the look of, say, the Darklight tanking gear (head+chest pieces) with a non-combo (i.e. head/chest as different pieces) look.

But knowing SE, they'll probably say it's gonna take too much effort to change the model whatever and force the combo look on us.

Maybe you can change it with the look of a cowl

What if my dragoon trained her body to be as tough as armor and only needs swimsuits
Or maybe my paladin is very lighthearted and he likes going to battle in a reindeer suit
If the suits the personality of my characters then it does not break immersion, for me at least

So because it breaks your immersion you want to ruin to everybody else? If people want to raid in biquinis that's their business not yours. Don't we have enough limitations with the dye system?

This really isn't an issue of "ruin for everyone else". It's pretty obvious that Square has gone out of its way in FFXIV to preserve the story integrity of the environment, which is why something like vanity slots dont exist in the first place. I can't tell you how many games i've played (ESPECIALLY japanese/korean) that have thrown any sort of believable series motif out the window in exchange for the massive income they get from Fanservice. It makes the dollhouse players happy, but it really ruins the respect of the game. I respect FFXIV for having the balls to tie stats to visual armor on an MMO in 2013-14.

I won't lie and say I like all the armor I had to wear through leveling, but there's something about my character always being battle-appropriate that really made me respect the game even more. If im in a lower dungeon and can afford the defense, i'll equip some seasonal gear or a default set for kicks.

But i'd also be lying if i said FFXIV wouldn't be losing anything with the inclusion of unchecked vanity slots. Don't act like it isn't a tradeoff for both parties, because it most certainly is. Yoshi himself has made that clear.

That's honestly how I like it, it's something about FFXIV that most other MMOs have abandoned in favor of fanservice because players feel like they're entitled to whatever they want.

you can do amazingly creative things by using seasonal/event gear. and without vanity slots people are still dressing as snowmen and wearing bikinis and crap anyways. At least now they can wear it and not lose stats like they do now. even take a look at the story...some of the quests....some of it (alot of it) is goofy. so the thought that these outfits ruin it for you just baffles me.

People who like immersion win because armor is still optimal. People who like bikinis win because they can still equip bikinis.
