When it's good it allows for some extremely complex strategies like in XI but when it's bad you're basically just standing there when enemies die left and right hoping you'd have a hand-held to get some gaming done when you're playing a game.

I won't even get to how messed up XIII's system is there you lose the interaction, strategy, feeling of danger and class uniqueness and so on so that dumb people can play. The good news is that people are simple and bought XIII by boatloads. Then again people also buy Modern Warfare corridor-movie games and some just like to sit still and watch clouds go by.

If this sounds bitter then it's because I am. I used to love the feeling of immersion in games that had depth and freedom. Now it's all about getting every single player to the finish line without once feeling lost.

Personally I felt lost in XI in SO many ways and it felt amazing. Just thinking about the logic behind elemental days makes my head spin. Oh memories..
13s system was actually had a ton of interactivity strategy, and danger, it was easy to die without approaching attacking the monsters right, and the harder fights had you changing strategies constantly almost to the point of the second some times.

But i will say it took awhile to reach that point, and the world was super linear for way too long.

you really should go back to ffxi, me and my friend restarted recently at the same time, i found it super boring and monotonous, with a dated world and annoying battle system, but he loves it. I really think its just made for a different market. And even with the probs i have with it, looking over the Abyssea content, the ideas behind it look entertaining, even though the battle for me is just too slow, and doesnt have enough depth

Back in topic, it looks like you will have the computer automating your most basic attack, ie the attack you started the game with (before completing the first story line mission
the other basuc attacks will be altered to accomdate the new system, the exact implementation is unknown at this point, but they hinted to using cool downs, and the video shows MP for some basic attacks, so those are good starting points.

You sure you were playing final fantasy 13? i beat that game by spamming the X button, and sometimes changed paradigms to heal. (90% of non-boss fights required 0 healing)
