It is possible to limit amount of display characters on your screen at a time?

My laptop is running this game for good during instance and field. However, whenever I teleport back to city. (especially at peak time), the characters loading suffer my laptop capacity so much, and causes laggy to every step of actions.

The problem is that by default of my setting, it will try to load every characters detail on the same area (city) which causes the lag. I know that PS3 version of this game only show limited amount of characters (such as only 20 characters nearest to you), so I wonder if I could also set that limit/filter to my laptop also? I don't think it is needed at all to see everyone in the city together. I would love to see only 20-30 people nearest to me, and then all other people are invisible in my screen, it will help my PC from doing heavy loading.

I wish they would add this to the PS3, So many damn people it's hard to get anything done

Yea it would be helpful.. Don't need to see the 100's of people standing around most of the time.

That's a really big problem for people with older or weaker CPUs. While in town I have CPU usage up to 85% whille overclocked to 4.5 Ghz. They need to implement a way to limit characters around or a key combination like other mmorpgs have that allows to make other players around you invisible (only name is displayed and they appear when you click the name).

yeah.. surprised it wasn't implemented at launch, especially with their FFXI experience. Hopefully it gets added soon.

For now, if you haven't done it already, you can try lowering the physics settings and limiting the effects rendering for others to see if it helps any.
