Remember that if you put skills that are on the global cooldown into a macro, you disable the command queue.
That means you lose about a quarter of a second (more or less depending on your latency) every time you use that macro.
So if you're trying to maximize your dps, it's best to use macros for off-global abilities only.

Obviously if you're just learning the class, then that quarter second here and there doesn't matter as much as actually doing your combo correctly from the right position.
So if you don't care about the command queue, I think it's really only ever going to be reliable if you leave the "starter" moves out of the macro entirely.
For example, leave bootshine and dragon kick to themselves, then build a few positional macros such as:
    Flank
    /ac "Snap Punch" <t>
    /ac "Twin Snakes" <t>

    Rear
    /ac "Demolish" <t>
    /ac "True Strike" <t>

That'll let you get rid of 2 keys while not introducing the possibility that dragon kick or bootshine will go off when they're not supposed to and ruin your combo.
