It seems as though whatever the issue was it was resolved, I can now load the launcher without any trouble as can a few others that had previously posted in this thread.

yeah i was unable to get to reddit on my phone and now i can. AT&T ninja fixed it
This issue is almost always local to the player.
It is typically caused by some sort of interruption of the patch download causing a boot file to become corrupted.
There are two known ways to fix this.
1: reinstall the game and re-patch....Yeah, the long fix.
2: ask someone who patched successfully for a specific boot file for you to download and update in your game folder.
The latter of the two I have never personally done, so I do not recall the specific file name (nor whether SE wants us to even do this).
Proceed at your own risk.

You shouldn't need the "game" folder. You should only need the "boot" folder. The corruption (or R/W permissions conflict) is the cause of the version check issue. Windows checks your user permissions when opening the launcher where sometimes Windows will think you don't have access to R/W (when Windows, not you, should be R/W) and throw the version check error. I've done it both ways. The less involved way is to uninstall and redownload the whole thing. The faster way is to pull the boot folder from reddit, mark yourself as R/W of the entire C drive and drop replace the good folder with the bad. This issue is almost always local to the player.

I've had the same issue for over a week now. I can't seem to get anything to work. I've tried changing my DNS settings, reinstalling the game, running as admin...nothing.
I'm using COX Communications as my ISP.![]()

It's not an issue with the internet. It's an issue with the boot folder being corrupted or your UAC preventing read/write access to the folder (due to being in Program Files x86).
I've uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall it but it still won't work. I've even downloaded a separate boot folder via torrent and it won't work. I'm really not sure what else to do at this point other than cancel my subscription.
Have you tried a clean install of Windows making sure you are the admin of the machine? Also changed all R/W permissions to the file itself to allow you full access (as the admin)?
I haven't done that yet. Just seems like it's the absolute last thing I should have to do when game was working just fine before the 2.1 patch.
Changing your DNS to google's will solve this problem until the interwebz of the US unthaws.
Couldn't log in all day, now I can just fine with google's DNS.
