The guy wasn't techniquely banned for "using" the app. He was banned for using the app to grief and or harass another member. If you notice it states in the JPEG that he was calling out another player for low DD and refers to his "app" as proof. Grief someone or harass someone like the player did than I'd think SE would sock it to him. If you remember the big controversy earlier about how posting parses in chat isn't productive and calls and shames people or promotes elitism... Here it is.

First time I've ever seen people get banned for using a parser on a MMO. Wow. A bit shocked here. Good thing I never bothered to touch it as a main healer. I'm a bit worried about this though. The last MMO I played, their GMS embraced parsers because they knew how important it can be to the gaming community...why would SE be against it?

SE is probably against it because it just makes an already toxic community that much more toxic. Best to err on the side of caution and just keep your information to yourself if its not within FC boundaries. The first rule of Fight Club is we do not talk about Fight Club.

From what I remember a GM did post way back that Parsers being a 3rd party program were allowed in game. Didn't say anything about monitoring the other members in your party either just that it wasn't against the rules. Hopefully maybe a GM will post in this thread shortly. Ill delete my parser programs for now I guess or just not use them for the time being. But harassing another player is different all together than the actual use of a program.

Before you all start throwing stones and thinking you know what is going on...the Monk in that party who was pointed out for having low DPS was talking smack to the entire party before the first attempt even started. Saying things like "Let see if people are actually going to dodge this time..." "Lets see who will be the first to die to Ifrit" etc. After a few wipes I pointed out his poor DPS and how he shouldn't tear people down for performing badly when he himself had awful DPS. The rest is FC chat after the party failed and was over the GM was quoting. The GM never quoted anything from the party, nor was he concerned in any way with anything that happened during the Ultima party.

If the Monk hadn't started out the group belligerently calling people out then performed badly, none of this would even be happening. So yes I did say he had awful DPS, but there was a reason for it. He thought of himself as above others and was being a jerk so I was putting him in his place.

And...regardless of what you believe did or didn't happen in that party...the fact of the matter is the GM didn't even address anything said in that party. He is simply applying warnings/bans for using the FFXIV-APP which the creator of said APP believes is not against the ToS. Which is the reason for the warning on Reddit to warn people who use the APP to be careful because they might get a warning/ban for using it if they refer to it's usage in-game. A GM might be contacting them about using it...so if you're going to use it don't discuss using it...is the reason for the post on Reddit.

There are users who have been streaming while using illegal third-party tools, and even though we've addressed this making them no longer useable, there have been reports of players who are still able to use them. Honestly, this is an obstruction of our operation. Players who see this kind of behavior are becoming increasingly worried, and although we tried to play down the issue at first, we will take steps to address this before it gets out of hand. While they don't mention parsers in particular, I think they've made it pretty clear they can ban people who use "illegal" third-party tools. Only they know what is illegal, but why risk using third-party tools at all when it's been stated that some of them can get you banned?

Yes, this specific time was a warning; however, if it happens again then he will face the full force of what SE can do to someone violating the ToS.

Let me tell you...you piss a cop or judge off in a traffic stop, court, or an arrest, you could leave with more than a small violation. It's the description of the person doing the enforcing and how hard the book is thrown.
