    materia problem

I finally got my weaving up to a level that I am able to actually meld materia into my main gear. I added three level one mind materia to a couple of my items. When I equip said items, it shows the materia, but below it it says +0 mind.

Is there a softcap on how much of a certain stat you can have, or am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes there's a cap that is specific to each item. When melding it, the stat gain shows at the top of the meld confirmation screen. If it is red, then you are not getting the full effect. There's no way in game to know, except through trial and error, but most fan-site item databases list stat caps in the comments sections for the most commonly melded items. I recommend using either Gamer Escape or XIVDB. I find the former best for researching recipes and materials, and the latter best for researching melding caps and stats.

A general rule of thumb is that HQ items are usually already at cap for main stats (STR, INT, etc.) and have a little room for existing secondary stats (Det, Crit, etc.) Typically you're going to be melding a small amount of already existing secondary stats to raise them to the item's cap, and then filling out the rest with whichever primary or secondary stats you want that aren't already on the item.

e.g of what the meld confirmation window looks like when melding an item already at that stat's cap. Note the red text at the top.
